Start by merging some departments, merge IT Infrastructure. Get rid of redundant roles and middle managers. Automate as much as possible. Theres dozens of billions right there
This just reeks of barbaric austerity that was done by Mulroney, Chretien, and Harper. Austerity never works, and kills our public services, which opens room for privatization, which, considering that neoliberals have been running this country since 1984, wouldn’t be surprise me as that’s what they support. Do you guys know what austerity leads to? Here:
A 63% decline in our bed capacity
A stagnant doctor to population ratio
End of social housing
Lower public financing of health care compared to other countries.
Lower social mobility
Stagnant productivity
Austerity kills the productive capacity of our economy, kills or starves poor people and the underprivileged, while the wealthy endure fine because they are well, wealthier! Austerity is useless, dogmatic, and inept ideology that has never worked in this country.

It looks like Carney is willing to walk the walk that Trudeau never had the courage to do.
I’ve long been a proponent that this day was going to come. I expect that we will see a lot of opposition from the left-leaning pro-Ukraine crowd now that someone is going to actually make them swallow their own bitter medicine.
Agreed we need to trim the fat, get our fiscal house in order, and invest in security. Carney is governing as a PC and I’m all for it.
