It’s get things done or the future (and now) pain will be greater and last longer.
If people that don’t want to work together are doing it for disingenuous or moving goalposts reasons and won’t compromise, then at some point it does have to be a „to hell with you we are doing it“ situation.
Tough pill to swallow for some.
That being said. Pay people to get agreements. Listen and act on concerns. Period.
If you don’t want Indigenous consent you either don’t understand the constitution, foundations of this country, and the innunerate court decisions OR you loudly or quitely reserve disdain for Indigenous rights and peoples and would like for the federal government to infringe on the rights of people.
Don’t forget you’re signing away your rights with all these fast tracking bills as well. Carney, Eby and Ford want to bypass environmental and who knows, maybe geological review. If you live in an affected community do you feel fine having zero input on a project? Are you cool with the government deciding to forgoe regulatory processes designed to ensure things like carcinogens aren’t entering your groundwater or ensure a piece of infrastructure is built on solid ground, or who knows if labour laws will still apply in these economic zones.
If you want lower barriers to project building, fine, just change the relevant laws. Don’t set the precedent for governments to create provisions to bypass existing protections. If that involves a constitutional crises regarding our Indigenous relationship at least people will finally have to admit they support overt and present colonialism and conquest.
Neo-liberalism at it’s finest. Absolutely beholden to billionaires and oligarchs who want to return us to a era without worker, environmental, or human rights protections.
Capital Carney is a conservative. Canada has successfully been pushed right; the overtone window shifted. This sets the stage for the next conservative government to have the revolution it is foaming at the mouth for; a return to kings (literally symbolized by the Liberal government in the throne speech).
I stand with the original stewards of turtle island. I stand for clean water, breathable air, and nutritious food. I stand for workers rights. You wont hear a liberal say any of these things, these super basic things, because it doesn’t serve their masters interests.
