      I fully support Khan but I’m not sure politicians should be getting knighthoods simply for doing their job, even if they do it well as I think it’s the case here.

      Like him or not, get elected multiple times as the mayor of a city and it seems like an automatic knighthood that would go unquestioned if we looked back at historical figures. That should be that really. Hilarious that the Tories are criticising this.

      I think he’s a mostly good mayor, he’s done well on public transport (despite Covid & WFH financial pressures), pretty good on housing. My only criticism is crime & policing, which is currently the worst I’ve ever known it to be in London in my 3 decades living here.

      Genuine question from a curiosity pov: What exactly has he done to be worthy of all these awards, accommodations and trophy’s?

      It just seems like he’s getting this on merit because a minority ethnic mayor got elected 3 times by a majority – minority ethnic city.

      I’ve always thought that knighthoods were for people that went above and beyond, gave more back to the country than they had to, or made great strides in industry or the arts.

      As far as I’m aware he just did his job? Quite well by some accounts, but did he actually do anything beyond what’s expected of the mayor of London?

      Great stuff. I know many don’t approve of the Royals and knighthoods etc but I think honouring citizens who’ve excelled and reached the top of their professions or those who do lots for the community should be recognised. Especially if they’re from working class backgrounds.

      Love them or loathe them, people like Khan & Starmer have made a contribution and had an impact on British society.

      That said, I moved out of London in 1989 so don’t know much about Sir Sadiq’s background. I know Keir Starmer’s background because he’s a national figure and people mock him for it but I think it cool to see the meritocracy at work

      And despite being a being awful racists and Britain being a shithole – according to many in Reddit – it’s good to see excellence recognised and rewarded.

      Cue the attacks from both the Left and the Right haha 🤪 with me firmly on the centre-left

      Bloke has presided over the highest murder, robbery, violent crime and theft rates in London, and has been knighted. Truly incredible

      Many years ago, you got a knighthood for leading men into battle, hunting down Nazis and saving lives. Also for elevating industries, and providing extraordinary contributions to humanity in the form of invention or humanitarian efforts. Now you just get one if you were quite good at football, or do your job as a politician or civil servant. It’s ridiculous. The knighthood does not carry the weight it once did.

      Oh, and this has got nothing to do with him personally, before the tribalists start labelling me a Reform mouth breather or Torygraph reader. It goes for the majority of people who receive this so-called „honour.“ The bar has been on the floor for a long time.

      I thought Sadie’s overall reception was negative considering there was a petition to stop this happening? Regardless, this isn’t going to help Charles in fighting the far right rumours that he’s a secret Muslim.

      It’s not my Rumour, google it. I’ve said as much as I’m going to and I won’t be arguing against or for.
