    1. By Kate Plummer and Shane Croucher – Investigative Reporter:

A CNN journalist was detained by police in Los Angeles as he reported on the riots live on air, leading to confusion in the studio.

Jason Carroll, a national correspondent for CNN, was led with his hands behind his back outside a perimeter officers had created and told he was not allowed to return to the area, broadcast footage showed.

Carroll later detailed what had happened. He said he was not placed under arrest and his hands were not tied. He was asked to give some details.

He was also detained during the Minneapolis riots in 2020. Sorry that was Omar Jimenez. I stand corrected.

    3. They will detain everyone who show them in a bad light. That’s straight out of the dictatorship playbook.

Hey, just like last time! The police haven’t lost their touch.

      Yeah, it’s terrible, I know.

LAPD says that they weren’t informed that the military was being deployed. Then again, with the malignant narcissistic sociopathic grifter on charge, all norms and protocols are out the window. He’ll do what he wants, when he wants, and doesn’t care who gets hurt. As a matter of fact, the more people get hurt, the better it is for his twisted sick mind to justify using more violence. The violence satiates his need to punish, to give others the pain that he feels inside. That’s why he can mock people, make fun of them, call them nasty and evil, and despicable and disgusting. Those are all the things that he feels inside.

This is going to be a long, hot summer, folks.

Did they detain any FOX entertainment reporters? Do they call themselves journalists?

The press should have backup drones recording from above. They probably do right? Its basic technology at this point

This is some Gestapo shit. Going after the press isn’t a new thing for them. Of course, they’ve already shot a reporter in the head with a rubber bullet.

      They are gunning for journalists.

The next steps are inactivation of cell towers and disconnected internet in active area.

Policing in American is an abusive relationship between lazy armed people who are never there when you need them (who also do not investigate crimes at all well) but will beat the hell out of citizens and journalists when they decide it’s time to tear gas and rampage

Newsome needs to make sure LA comes down hard on the police for stuff like this. If not then it just gives Trump more ammunition that the locals can’t do the job and the military needs to come in.

Were there other reporters within that perimeter? This kinda seems like nothing.

    13. They’re targeting the media and the media is too scared to say it. Funny how it’s like a live action boiled frog anecdote

It’s going to be a long, hot summer. We’re not even 6 months into this 2nd nightmare with Trump. He’s following the Project 2025 playbook that builds the foundation for an all white, Christian Nationalist government with authoritarians at the helm.

    15. CNN sanewashed and enabled this administration. Jake Tapper is a magat idiot. Reap what you sow CNN.

Any chance someone has a link to the CNN broadcast? All that plays on this link is a shitty compilation video with violin music.

Didn’t this also happen in 2020? Both times a darker skinned male as well.

    18. It’s important to make the distinction between the LAPD and the sheriff and his deputies, I feel.

From what I gathered, the latter seemed a lot more trigger happy and eager to force the issue, than the LAPD this weekend.

Though I could be wrong of course.

    19. The regime can’t control the narrative if there are too many reporters covering what’s actually going on

This whole thing is a message.
The next phase of Trumps power consolidation requires disempowering the states. Much like going after universities because, as JD Vance put it some years ago, „Professors are the enemy“, it is similar with the governors and their power.

Be under no illusion, they have chosen this moment for a show of force, naturally against the media too. They want to inflict harm to show that they are strong and willing to break stuff, be it the law or bones, to get what they want. They do this to show the MAGA base that Trump will handle their enemies without mercy, and we all know that anyone is the enemy if they don’t bend the knee. California is also a natural battleground for this purpose, and it’s about dominating the govenor and challenge his power, initially by deploying forces, but there’s likely more to come.

It is important now to realise the deep shit you’re already in. The only way out is through. You’ve seen the gaslighting campaign unfold about „optics“ — this is just the groundwork for justifying mass injury and even deaths. Be prepared for that, they want and need this to escalate.

I am going to be reallt sad reading why people think this is not a big deal. Not being able to show the footage for just what it is, and unable to document this in real time is the last step. First the people failed, then the law. Judges corruption and politicians greed all but sealed the deal. But when the pictures and video cannot be taken to give an entire view then we are doomed to have a civil and quick end to this.

    23. It’s probably safer for a news reporter to be covering live from Gaza than a local story in the USA

    24. randombrosef on

These Cops are so freaking stupid! Absolute brain dead morons.

Loss of lawsuits should really come out of their pensions, maybe that’ll actually force some intelligence into force.

      Also, obvious racism is obvious.

    25. The media is being targeted and this article sounds like it was written by maga AI. The reporter that was “struck” by a rubber bullet was intentional shot in videos you can see the stormtrooper watching her and knew damn well she was a reporter and took aim at her and shot her. The video of the reporter being removed is not playing on this POS article but was most likely removed so what is really going on is not reported and the dicktator can make up his own story and put LA under martial law, this is going to happen across America unless he is stopped. Make good trouble do not cause violence or destruction
