„Roughly 500 Marines based out of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in California have been mobilized to respond to the protests in Los Angeles, according to three people familiar with the matter, and will join the thousands of National Guard troops that were activated by President Donald Trump over the weekend without the consent of California’s governor or LA’s mayor.“
Illegal and unnecessary escalation.
This is like adding styrofoam, gasoline mixed with a rag and lighting it on fire and it throwing at embers.
I am getting tired of all this history happening.
To do what? Instigate violence against citizens exercising their 1st amendment right to protest?
It wasn’t even violent until law enforcement started shooting at the protestors.
Trump is itching to do some shooting to satisfy his sadistic tendencies.
Hoping to incite civil unrest with military presence. They are itching to crank things up to 11. This reeks of Miller.
This feels high-risk low reward for Trump admin. Sure it may help cement his „strong man“ reputation with his existing base but outside of that I don’t think this will earn him any other support. It also helps elevate Newsom and give him a „persecution“ platform, similar to one that Trump himself used in 2022-2024.
What allows him to send marines?
However many „uncrossable“ lines we’ve seen Trump cross, the actions outside of the norms that have either been tipping us towards or placing us into uncharted territory (depending on who you ask) this may well be the defining one.
On the other side of this whatever it looks like, this could be seen as the pivitol movement.

The marines should refused to comply with any order that deploys them against the civilian population. the military are not law enforcement.
I wish all the protesters would go home and let the marines look like idiots for being there on their own. Come back out once it has calmed down. Then repeat again and again.

We went from a few neighborhood protests to deploying active military to the streets of America for like the first time since the 1990s in the matter of a couple days.
In the BLM protests, it was right wingers who started the vandalism. Everyone remember „Umbrella man“? Right wing police officer who started the vandalism then ran off.
My suspicion is that the same is happening now. Right wing instigators will light cars on fire and break windows then it will be used as an excuse to arrest and beat up innocent protestors.
They want this to escalate so badly so they can declare martial law. These are such small scale protests with zero need for the national guard or military.

Its clearly an attack on the state. the president has spent years demonizing California, recently withheld disaster relief because of made up bullshit lies, takes over the national guard and unilaterally deploys them against the demands of the governor, sends in 500-700 marines (once again against the demands of the state) and then calls it an insurrection and recommends the governor be arrested. This is clearly an attack on the state and he wishes to make them an example.
This is aggressive and will likely lead to even bigger protests. Which i bet is what he wants.

This is illegal. Civil unrest is not insurrection. No one is saying they want to dismantle the government (except the GOP). Congress is inept. This will break the Union.

While this may be taken from Battlestar Galactica it rings true and should be at least considered during this crisis. The more poignant detail I see here is this is being escalated by the administration. They are looking to to make themselves the martyr in the national state to only increase support for their gestapo tactics. By the time Trumps supporters realize that these people in LA are standing up for them as well it will be too late.
