The UK and France have dropped plans to recognize a Palestinian state at an upcoming UN-backed conference in New York (17–20 June), scaling back the event’s original ambitions.
France had pushed for coordinated recognition with allies like the UK and Germany, but both countries declined, warning it could send the wrong signal.
French officials have since assured Israel that the conference will not be used to announce statehood recognition. Instead, the focus will shift to outlining a roadmap, conditional on key steps from the Palestinians, including a permanent Gaza ceasefire, release of Israeli hostages, reform of the Palestinian Authority, economic reconstruction, and the removal of Hamas from power in Gaza.
tl;dr despite the complexity of Israel’s actions no one wants to support a terrorist nation and no one wants to abandon a Western country in the middle east. However Democratic nations will pretend otherwise to convince college students to vote for them.
