      I think at this point it’s probably a smart thing to do, though I do wonder if it’ll make any material difference to everything on the ground. The United States is somewhat needed here and… it’s not looking great.

      I do also get the points that others have raised about Hamas, however.

      We could recognize it. I don’t even have a major issue with doing so in principle.

      But honestly, even if we do, so what? Palestine won’t be any closer to being a real country with defined borders and a unified government. We won’t be any closer to peace in the region. Nothing will come of it.

      I guess its nice aesthetically, but it accomplishes and means nothing. It’s a total empty gesture.

      This realistically only ends with a Palestinian state formed via negotiations, or the mass expulsion of the Palestinians from the region. We seem to be rapidly trending towards the second.

      Yeah of course we should. Every human being on the planet has the right to dignity and self determination. And when we give that to them, they become way less violent. For example: North Ireland. No brainer.

      I fail to see why Canada needs to do anything on this topic really.

      Our opinion on the issue as a country is sort of irrelevant.
