      So did everyone else.

Until Elizabeth Swan & *Jack Sparrow* showed up on screen.

To be fair, the theme park ride tie-in is basically just the fact that they’re pirates.

Edit: For the people intent on pointing out that there are other references; I know. My point is that the ride has very little in the way of story or characters and the movie is more or less a completely original screenplay with superficial connections to a theme park ride.

FWIW the theme park ride didn’t really have a story before the film… it was just pirates raiding a Caribbean town. So in the movie there are a couple Easter eggs and a small call back to the song… that’s about it.

Crazy to think that he was in two of the biggest franchises ever in LOTR and Pirates.

I don’t blame him, it does sound ridiculous on paper. I bet he’s glad his agent said, „just do it.“ though.

Pretty sure that was everyone’s reaction it’s a crazy idea that had a very small chance of being good.

    7. I was an extra on that movie for months. There was a lot of that mentality going on there. It was fun film making but it was also a kind of “let’s see what happens” mentality going on. It was an experiment they were conducting. Making movies out of popular rides. Nobody knew if it would fly. The other rides they made movies didn’t do so well.

    8. The sad thing is a lot of people now think the movie came first and have no idea the ride opened in the 60s 😅

What’s with all the pirates of the carribean posts all over reddit now? This is like the 4th one I’ve seen in 24 hours. Are they about to announce something?

Whenever I think about different ways to dismiss a movie, I don’t usually consider starring in it.

Many people did. The first movie was pretty much lightning in a bottle.

Read someplace that the script start out as an „Escape From Monkey Island“ adaptation. The final picture is far field from that VG franchise, but there’s a lot of connective tissue that both worlds share.

We all did Orlando, then I watched it, and I loved it, shame they didn’t make any sequels…

I went to see it with this attitude and very low expectations. Blown away of course.

I don’t think its that crazy. Its good marketing synergy and they can basically do whatever they want as long as pirates are in the movie and they use some of the names.
