Here’s a fun trap for a conservative. Ask them how the existence of LGBTQ people can be acknowledged without being controversial, and then keep asking them until they answer. They absolutely won’t give a genuine answer right away and will try to dodge. But lock in hard and don’t let go.
It’s a trap because they know the answer they believe makes them sound unambiguously evil if they say it out loud, but there’s no safe answer they can pretend is the real one. Just saying what a gay person is, or a trans person is, or any deviation from the norm is unacceptable to them. But they are self aware enough to know that they can’t say that.

The fact that they associate one’s identity immediately with sex is what’s weird here. Elmo didn’t bring up sex, they brought up acceptance. Republicans are the weird ones for bringing sex into everything. When I learned what the LGBTQ was my first thought wasn’t sex. There is more to a relationship.
