I don’t know why people are so surprised. Weirdly the French don’t want to deal with the problem and it’s much easier to make it our problem. If the roles were reversed people here would be saying “nah mate not our problem, let the frogs sort it out”

The UK should have been fining the French government for every illegal migrant that crosses, (the fees for housing the illegal migrant while they are here, admin fees, the fees for transporting the migrant back to France and a penalty on top). France would soon change it’s tune. 100k per? 5000 let through and all of a sudden they owe us money.
What have the UK been giving the French piles of cash for? Oh, yes. Giving them loads of cash so they could eat croissants. Not, as we thought, stopping the migrants getting in hundreds of boats and rowing to Blighty.
it’s fascniating to me that the Israeli collective (government, citizens via ‚protest‘, soldiers) can stop and delay vital and miniscule amounts of aid and food coming into Gaza from ALL fronts yet the European collective cannot stop migrants from coming in. somehow they are just unable to do that.

The problem is then solved for France as it was before. No conflict, no hassle, no risk.
Clips online *suggested* that french police had already been ignoring groups which were potentially organised trafficking gangs. Walking back and forth on the beach without issues, helping to set people up on their over inflated journey towards paradise (England). The money made by gangs will be likely used to fund other less than legal activities, in and out of the UK.
Asylum is no doubt advertised online on dubious sites as a loophole to the strict legal method of entry. Whether claims of it being easier to obtain a long term easy passport in the long run when you have no id or record, or a dubious past, are correct or not. Whether ingenuine claims of asylum outnumber the genuine is anyone’s guess. It may not be easy to prove. It all depends on the level of marketing that is out there.
And people get angry with me when I tell them that racists are dumb for voting right-wing…
Left-wing always reduces immigration. Arguing better education for locals, processing asylum claims swiftly, actually making the systems work, …
But left-wing doesn’t have the hateful rethoric… so racists vote right-wing, see the numbers go up and vote even more right-wing. Smart move.

Its not like we made them a fat check to deal with it in the first place… I’ll believe it when I see it considering this has been happening for well over a decade. Now we just need to deport all foreign criminals, the illegal immigrants already here and all foreign dependents not contributing to the economy. Then that’ll begin to fix this country.
French police are lazy corrupt bullies. They need to stop illegal immigrants entering their country let alone leaving it. How can over one thousand people be allowed to leave France in a single day on small boats in such a small area.

I am British (now), have spent most of my Life in the UK but was born in France. I came here for uni and never left (I am 47 yo). But then I was always an Anglophile and never keen on France.
I am not a fan of the EU but I find it odd to vote for Brexit to get control of our borders back then immediately capitulate and pay the people that we have just split from to do it.
Interestingly enough, many cite the ECHR as the reason that we can not stop the migrants but the people we are asking to do the job on our behalf are members of the ECHR…

I think this might be a human rights violation.
Article 2.2 of the European Convention of Human Rights says:

They don’t have a right to enter the UK, but they can leave France, is my understanding. Having entered the UK they can claim asylum and their illegal entry cannot prejudice their case.
We did of course have an agreement with the EU to send back migrants like this before hearing their asylum claims. The scheme, called the Dublin Agreement is more than 64% successful since 2022. But, we did not use it as much as the EU did when we could, and we voted to leave it. Boris Johnson etc did not seek to replace it with anything.
