You need to very thoroughly clean the window frames with a solvent, like alcohol or isopropyl, to make sure ist absolutely clean and fat free.

Then you applied the hooking tape.

Then you wait 6 hours for the hooking tape to adhere properly.

      Then you apply the screen.

Trust me, it makes a huge difference

Those by are on the cheap end, I’d advise for tesa

    2. 1. Did you clean the part where you will put the tape/adhesive with soap, water and a good dry up?

On clean surfaces the adhesive should stick as-hell.

Otherwise you could try to get some living kitchen herbs in pots which have a strong smell like Rosemary or Basilikum and put them on the board under your window…

But the net stays the best counter to insectual invasion. Try to get one which has the velcro to mount on to the window frame, that is the one with the good adhesive, but it has to be squeaky clean inb4!

These things are simply rubbish. If they sit properly for more than a year, you’re in luck.

I assume you are renting? Then I would contact the landlord and ask if he can have professional insect screens fitted. For example from [Neher](https://www.neher.de/fliegengitter/fliegengitter-mit-rahmen/). These are individually measured and manufactured for your window by a carpenter or other specialist. Yes, they cost quite a bit more than those DIY shit, but they also last a lifetime, so to speak. We have been using them ourselves for more then 10 years and they still look like new and you’ve never had to do anything to it.

As you are (presumably) renting, this „lifelong pleasure“ will probably not be of much use to you. The landlord, on the other hand, will think to himself why he should put such a thing on your window for a few hundred euros. I would therefore clarify with the landlord whether you can contribute to the costs on a pro rata basis (e.g. 80€ / 20%…what ever). You would then have a really great solution for your rental period and the landlord would even have added value for his property if you move out.

      My advice:

Clean the surfaces properly with isopropyl alcohol, lighter fluid (gasoline) or at least universal cleaner before application.
Buy TESA. They are expensive (I think ~20€), but work wonderfully and hold up for years.
Take your time, and make sure to properly put on the glue velcro stuff in one go from one side to the other without any gaps, as well as press it down evenly.
After installment, keep the window completely shut for 12-24h to ensure the glue is really pressed onto the window and sticks.

    5. I use those from TESA and they stay for several years. I have bigger problems to remove the adhesive tape after some times as they stick so well.

The other posts already mentioned the cleaning, but at the beginning I commited another mistake: If the net is fitted too tightly it might pull the tape off. I always kept it very stretched because it is less visible like that, but after a few days the tape was pulled off. With a looser fitting I never had this problem again.

    6. Aside from a professional installed bug net… if you have a lot of flying bugs, there are electric fly swatters that you can stand up and when you turn them on they emmit a light which causes the bugs to fly into them at night and kill them. Worked surprisingly well for me so far.

You need to install it inside of the frame, not on the outside of the window. That way the glue and plastic will bot deteriorate from the sun. I‘ve made the same mistake before learning this. Have now had the same screens for years.

Or get some professionally installed, they’re usually just a frame fitted to the window and clipped in. That is a bit expensive, though.

They shouldn’t come off after days. I had mine (from Jysk) on for almost 2 years now.

Did you clean the window where you glue on the .. klettband? I recommend really scrubbing that down to get the best result.

    9. You might want to use one that is installed „mechanically“ instead of glued by tape. First of all because it holds better and longer (there are sets of them where you cut the net frame just the size you need). And you can just take them out whenever you want.
Second because the glued ones are shit. The glue remains on the window frame if you take the net off. And this is a problem because the glue will the stick to the windows sealing and rip them out, when you open the windows (especially when the windows are older). Happened at my current place and let me tell you, getting the glue off the frame is a pain in the a**.
