This isn’t a „return“. **This was a status quo**. You couldn’t hold a white collar job if you were a woman or black.
All DEI did was say „Hey – we noticed you’re choosing people who are white men **even if they are unqualified for the job** – post what the actual requirements are, and only pick from people who meet those requirements including women, black people, etc.“
Conservitives – those champions of Free Speech and Free Market values (only they’re fucking liars) couldn’t handle actually competing by being qualified – they needed their safe spaces where only they can participate and pat themselves on the back for being „superior“ while living in fear that „they’re gonna take my jobs!“ if they actually have to compete on a level playing field.
Which is how you get a secretary of defense where the previous position was held by a person with years of combat and administrative experience in combat environments – but they were black, so they had to be replaced by an alcoholic with no combat administrative experience but they’re white.

Well, if a study comes from an academic institution by a conservative professor, I have to assume it’s a bad study, because they are a DEI hire, obviously.

This is idiocy.
Shall we also address the overrepresentation of conservatives in the military?

I can’t imagine why academia has such trouble recruiting conservatives, when the conservative movement seems dead set on defunding academia and promoting debunked and dangerous nonsense, and when the conservative temperament even in better days tends not to be „I would like to spend years and years and researching very, very specific things and teaching undergraduates, mostly for love, because (usually) there isn’t much money in it.“ Many academics are ADJUNCTS, not tenured professors!

Also wildly underrepresented: creationists in biology departments and homeopaths in medical schools.

If we’re gonna post articles from paywalled publications (like The Atlantic), can we please make it common practice to also post a link to the non-paywalled article? Thanks.

This is some intense sanewashing from the Atlantic. Trying to sell “diversity of opinion” like you’re going to get Edmund Burke but you get Chris Rufo instead.

It’s not an attempt at diversity, equity, or inclusion.
Let’s call it what it is…attacks on institutions seen as threatening to their complete control by hook or by crook.

We need to stop calling Republicans conservatives. Nothing about the modern party resembles conservatism. It’s faux populism used to ram in fascism.
Remember the days where maybe you and a conservative disagreed but could still get along?!? Man I miss those days. MAGA has helped usher in a venomous strand of tribalism where anyone who doesn’t agree with them is “the enemy” instead of opposition.
Conservatism is not a protected class, and should not be treated as one. No matter *how* loudly they cry about it. This is because modern conservatism *is not based on reality*, and therefore is fundamentally incompatible with education as a whole. Sixty years ago, this was arguably not the case. But now it is hard to argue that any of the strong positions taken by conservatives have any basis in fact, science or logic.

To all the people who said they agreed with diversity, but they just really wanted the most qualified candidate to win the job regardless of race or gender, how’s this admin working out for you? Do you feel like the most qualified person has been hired for the job in every instance?

The Atlantic can fuck off considering how often they gave platforms to conservatives under the facade of „neutrality.“

Real question: has any conservative idea been good? It seems like we should have more than enough proof by now that the ideology is regressive, harmful and tanks the economy.

Conservatives: College degrees, especially humanities departments are a scam. Universities are corrupt. Do something that’ll make you money.
Also conservatives: Academy has a left bias. You have to include us.

Conservative professors are rare because an education, learning things, using your brain, takes you away from conservatism.

Why are there so few conservatives in academia?
Are they serious? We all know why there aren’t as many conservatives in higher education and it’s not because they’re all busy washing the feet of the poor.
Conservatives don’t make good teachers because the conservative viewpoint is not one of curiosity or creativity. Also, I’d say generally they probably aren’t great with young people on the whole.
