I hope people read the article and don’t jump to conclusions.
It’s not just the portrait. It’s also a copy of his infamous Rivers of Blood speech, and it’s not for sale either.
You can think Powell is a cunt and not shop there.
Something like this should never be a legal matter. „Hate“ can only ever be vaguely defined and is often partisan in its interpretation. It’s also self defeating given this hardly suppresses certain ways of thinking; if anything it just radicalises people further and contributes to their sense of victimhood.

I’d imagine it has something to do with the ‚Prevent‘ framework.
Enoch has become a dog whistle for thinly veiled hatred under the guise of nationalism.
Not that this is indicative of any Enoch fan, but the one person who has him as his facebook picture is also a failed politician in a Swedish far right party but also sent us pictures of himself with guns in front of nazi banners – not a very pleasant person at all.
When people end up on a watch list despite never being arrested, these are the signs that flag someone. It’s not a crime, but it can be part of a picture. What’s odd is that we are being told about it, I dont understand why we were told about this.
What a load of absolute nonsense. Especially when the PM is ripping it off in his own speech.
Ambiguous laws need to go. All they lead to is politically biased interpretations.

Ok I will bite who the heck is Enoch Powell and why should I care about someone having a photo of them.
And why is it a police issue.
(Being genuine here I have no idea and don’t want to google lest next thing I know the algorithm hit me with crap for the next while.)
If you’re allowed to display stuff relating to Islam and other hateful ideologies, then why not this? It should be consistent.
Meanwhile, police don’t bother to investigate actual crime.
In this thread: r/unitedkingdom users say that Enoch Powell really wasn’t that bad guys, he just had some legitimate concerns and was just tired of being called racist.
Might as well put up a sign that says,
„This is a Local shop, for Local people. There is nothing for you here“.
We didn’t burn him.
Slightly off-topic, but Enoch Powell was a more complex political figure than is usually acknowledged. For example, he spoke Hindi and Urdu and, in marked contrast to Churchill, admired India’s cultural traditions. Powell was also – and I must declare personal gratitude to him for this – an early supporter of homosexual law reform. He voted (along with the liberal wing of the Conservative Party) for decriminalisation in 1967, the first step on the long and often bumpy road towards equality.
The only thing pictures of Enoch Powell should be used for is as toilet paper.
Thought crime is going to be not so distant thing. 1984 was a warning that we ignore.
you can’t even hang up a picture of Enoch Powell without being called a racist. Its political correctness gone mad!
Reasonable, it’s obviously put up there to deliver a very obvious message in a public forum.
They just think they’re being clever by putting it up instead of a ‚No Dogs, No Blacks, No Irish‘ sign.
Could the police so something crazy like investigate crime?
No wonder they solve less than 10% of crime per year.
This gonna be posted every week from now on so it can continue to upset the people who don’t think there’s anything wrong with dressing up as Hitler eh?
