      Just maybe alienating Ukraine and cutting them off from weapons and intelligence and basically making it clear the United States does not have Ukraine’s back may have something to do with it. Trump basically emboldened Russia to step up the war knowing there will be no real repercussions from the US.

      If, giving Trump ALOT of credit here I must say, the issue is Trump thought he had a honest friendly relationship with Putin and is not a stooge for him, than Trump is a idiot for not realizing the situation Putin is in or capitalizing on it.

      Putin MUST win in Ukraine. Having the army humbled so badly and admitting defeat in Ukraine can have massive consequences in Russia and the world in general. It means the great Russian bear truly cannot fight a much smaller nation with all its resources and material. That its leadership let years of war go on with no real victory to claim. INternal elements and outward may see this as a chance to pounce on a now immesely weakened Russia.

      Putin has alot to lose if Ukraine holds.

      Any sane president would have been firm with Putin. Made red lines and scalable threats (increasing support for Ukraine) if Putin showed no interest in peace.
      Trump can’t do any of that. Nothing he says really means anything and he seems happy to show all his cards early. A pathetic deal negotiator.
