backing away from making gender issues the center policy of our platform isn’t abandoning anyone.
if we dont get elected, we cant do jack shit to protect anyone. Centrist dont turn out to vote for issues that dont effect them.
a widely accepted core issue like costs, daycare, roadways, public works wins elections. look at the dumbest voter and explain to them exactly how youre going to help them.
we can do so much for minority groups in the US by just being focused on problems that 370 million americans face everyday, explaining how we can fix them, and then bringing gender and equality issues to the table when we take majority and the WH.
Scapegoating trans people for economic issues like the cost of eggs is a cynical, bad-faith tactic straight from the GOP playbook. It’s designed to distract and divide. The idea that abandoning our values or ignoring human rights will somehow make life easier for working families is a dangerous illusion
I have trans friends, and I completely empathize with their plight. But basing your election strategy on less than 1% of the population, and a controversial less-than-1% at that, isn’t a winning formula. Democrats need to win, period. Get yourselves in power, then worry about trans issues and help where you can.

Dems barely talk about Trans people and are quick to throw them under the bus. These are some of the most vulnerable people in this country who just want to live. Let them live.

The cost of eggs and other groceries hits home with voters, each and ever time they buy food. Trans people are peripheral to most voters.

Perhaps the LGBT community should trust that inclusion and equity is built into the DNA of the democratic party and get on board with a message shift.

Ok so how do we get voters? as a party that is beholden to the rich, how does the Democratic party as it is actually get voters and remain financially viable?

GOP obsessed over them and Dems focused messaging on the economy.
Which is 100% the right strategy.
If Dems play into the culture war then it becomes a „do you know and have empathy for a trans person“ test for every voter and most people don’t know one.
By messaging about the economy Dems made it look like GOP was the insane person on the street corner yelling about lizard people and it nearly worked.
Ironically a much larger contributing factor during the campaign was a pivot from the happy warrior style campaign they started with, that had huge success, to the existential threat to democracy line, which just didn’t land, for some unknown reason. This is ironically, because it was why Tim Walz was brought in. They picked him and then moved away from what made him a good pick.
They started down 20 and reversed that almost entirely, then pivoted and lost it all again. Very odd choice.

Pound for pound, Democrats have been offering fantastic and beneficial policies like civil rights, anti price gouging, expanding healthcare, lowering drug cost, building more houses, cutting middle class taxes etc….
Those are competing against what the Republicans consistently offer, which is culture war issues – abortion, DEI/CRT, women’s sports etc
Last election showed us that „they’re eating cats and dogs of the people“ is more attractive than „we’ll help you buy a house“
All of the arguments for throwing trans people under the bus boiled down to „let’s base what we say solely on what is most politically expedient at the moment instead of showing backbone and loyalty, because surely the voters will reward us for being spineless weasels or never mean what we say.“
I don’t actually believe that any Republican cares about the cost of eggs. Sure, the facade of the economy at large played an impact in the election, but let’s be honest here, they buy into any bogeyman story the GOP throws, and Democrats can’t respond.
„Trans people are eating your children“ – GOP
„We support trans people, they’re not eating children. That’s insane.“ – Democrats
„Why are Democrats talking so much about trans people, don’t they care about the economy? Why are they always talking about trans people?“ – GOP
„Democrats only care about trans people“ – GOP voter
Repeat for every other topic like immigration, etc.
Democrats also actually support a secure border just like Republicans, but the second the GOP makes them say „we believe every life has value and support immigrants and refugees“, you’ve just now caused base and swing voters to get pissed off because they don’t care about every life having value, nor supporting immigrants (unless its their immigrants).
The only logical option is for Democrats to not talk about it because half of this country can’t fathom the idea of having an administration that, [checks notes], multitasks.
It’s wild how history is already being rewritten with „Dems lost the election because they were too woke/cared about „““fringe issues like trans people“““ too much“, when anyone who has a brain can remember the interviews and statements from Kamala and dems generally during that whole time distancing themselves more and more from any queer issues, doing photo ops infront of the wall, telling reporters they actually also owm guns and like them, one Senator even outright saying trans women aren’t women and all…
Dems lost because they tried to hunt after a mythical undecided, moderate conservative who would see this and rather vote for the democrats than his own party. And that person doesn’t exist.
But now, instead of admitting thwir mistake during the election, they are doubling down and going „no actually we were still *too* woke!“, which we’ve already seen does absolutely nothing in making them win elections
