It’s controversial because it sucked. Most „got it“ but felt betrayed by the whole last season. Lucky for them Game of Thrones fumbled the ball worst than they did and will mostly just be forgotten

I got the ending. I even liked it on an emotional level. I just wish all the mysteries had meaning in the story and weren’t just random bait to keep viewers watching.

Idk how people are confused by the ending when it’s literally explained at the end. Love the show and hate the final season but the last episode wasn’t confusing at all and probably my favorite episode of that season.

i rewatched it a few years ago, watched the first few seasons growing up, i heard people say that the ending was terrible and made no sense and it was dumb that they were dead the whole time but i figured it might be good anyways.

i understood the ending and everything else immediately, i dont know how anyone walked away from that show with „they were dead the whole time“ and still continue this lie 15 years later. i only counted 2 mysteries that went unanswered and they were both inconsequential to the plot.

The problem I’ve always had with Lost (even though I’m a huge fan) is that they were selling something different then what was offered. It’s not to say the the ending didn’t have meaning, and to be fair if you’re paying attention it’s not even that difficult to understand. It’s that jj and the team was selling this show as a sci fi that had a ton of mystery boxes and they sold it like it would all be explained in a satisfactory way. Clearly the character component was a big part of the show part of the reason that it was so good, but they were pushing the idea that “omg there’s a monster, there’s a polar bear, there’s a mysterious cult” that would all be explained in a puzzle box manner at the end. That’s not what happened, they went for a purely character driven ending which I do think is satisfying in its own way and actually kind of iconic because it is a bit of a rug pull, but it’s also extremely frustrating as a viewer because it really did feel like the writers did not have a satisfying conclusion made up for all the mystery boxes and in the end it really just boiled down to: yea this is a magic time travelling island with magic stuff on it, it’s just magic guys. And that was it. 90% of the audience did not receive what they were promised by all the writing and advertising of that show. So it’s fair for most people to be frustrated by the ending. I both love and hate the end of lost, I will say I think we talk about the end of lost a lot more than we would have if it were more satisfying it’s definitely controversial and to some extent I like it for that. But it still pisses me off that it boiled down to timey whimey magic.
