„May 22 (Reuters) – A federal judge on Thursday said President Donald Trump’s administration cannot restructure and downsize the U.S. government without the consent of Congress and that she would likely extend her ruling blocking federal agencies from implementing mass layoffs.
„U.S. District Judge Susan Illston during a hearing in San Francisco agreed with a group of unions, nonprofits and municipalities that layoffs that began last month are likely illegal and would cause widespread harm to the public.“
„Illston on May 9 blocked about 20 agencies from engaging in mass layoffs for two weeks and required the reinstatement of workers who had already lost their jobs. That order is set to expire on Friday, and the judge at the hearing said she was inclined to extend it „with some refinement.““Agencies may not conduct reductions in force in blatant disregard of congressional mandates, whether the president orders them to or not,” Illston, an appointee of Democratic former President Bill Clinton, said at the beginning of the hearing.“
„The plaintiffs said in court filings that Trump’s drastic downsizing of federal agencies will result in an array of widespread harms to the public, including gutting disaster relief programs, public health services, food safety inspections, and contagious disease prevention.“
„Dozens of lawsuits have challenged the administration’s efforts, and Illston’s ruling earlier this month was the broadest of its kind so far.“
„Illston said in her May 9 decision that Republican and Democratic presidents have for decades respected the role of Congress in reorganizing the federal government. She said that while lawmakers have rebuffed some White House initiatives, they have also approved presidents‘ plans to restructure agencies more than a dozen times since the 1930s.“Constitutional commentators and politicians across party lines agree that sweeping reorganization of the federal bureaucracy requires the active participation of Congress,“ she wrote.“

Why do courts think they’re still relevant? This whole ‚rule of law‘ thing was chucked out of the window when the Trump admin rambled about the word ‚facilitate‘ and gave SCOTUS the finger about a very unambiguous ruling. *While* crowing that they somehow actually won.
This is Trumpworld now. Don’t expect literally anything you know about America to be true anymore.
Judges have said a lot but nothing changes, the administration does what they want and nobody stops them. It’s way past time for courts to do something about the many breaches of court decisions. The longer nothing happens, the more it looks like they are in the pockets / on the take.
Cone on then, all you justices – prove me wrong – prove your court decisions are worth more than the paper they’re written on.
Good thing Republicans in (control of) Congress have our best interests at heart and have shown time and again that they are willing to stand up to Trump’s authoritarianism!

Contempt of Congress or Contempt of Congressional Orders and Acts is the line.
So here we go – most of these agencies, depts, and programs created Acts of Congress came from people like Lyndon B Johnson and Franklin Roosevelt.
It’s not contempt of modern liberal thinking – we are talking contempt of the will of the American people. It’s contempt of generations of will of the American people.
We are talking contempt of Civil War war Americans, WWI and WWII Americans, Survivors of the Depression and Survivors of the Holocaust Americans. And The Original Abolitionists and the OG Civil Rights Activist Americans.
Despite these were brave, scary, and disequilibrium creating Acts, they were addressing the great spiritual and physical abuse of living human beings by those who would rank each other as lesser due to their personal or generational hoard of resources.
„We hold these truths self evident that all men are created equal.“ It stands.
Millions upon millions created brave change so we’d never see the dark days they lived through while watching loved ones die or worse.
They willed into being these Acts of Congress. And if Congress falls to call out contempt, so ends the will of the American people.
But they can grow uncontrollably without congress?
