And this is why I can never support the CPC. Even good ideas, like this, are not done because they want to get it done, they do it for performative purposes.
Is this a bill, or private members act, something that can cross party lines working collaboratively with other parties?
No, it’s a bloody private petition that will do absolutely nothing.
As a conservative my self, I can never understand why the conservatives did not run hard against the liberals immigration record.
There’s really nothing wrong with the program in principle, but it does need to be administered and enforced properly. On those fronts the Trudeau government failed miserably and in a way I hope is never forgotten and forever taints his legacy.
But we don’t need to throw out the baby with the bathwater here and terminate the program. Just do it properly. Legitimate people filling legitimate skills shortages should always be welcome.
When Jason Kenny was in Stephen Harper’s Government, he was in charge of this program. They brought thousands of foreign workers in to work in Northern Alberta. Even though there were thousands of tradesmen looking for jobs. They just didn’t want to hire Union Tradesmen. If PP was in power I guarantee they would be expanding this program. They are doing this all for show.

TFWP is a horrible program, (supercharged into its modern form by Stephen Harper and Jason Kenny btw), that creates a underclass of non-citizen residents, with precarious legal status, who can be exploited for their labour, for the benefit of the business lobby. Not having this is what made Canada a better multicultural society than the United States, Germany, etc.
We should have lots of immigrants, who come to Canada to build a life, and become citizens, arriving through the sponsorship, and family reunification, and refugee streams; and in the process they will get jobs, and fill real labour market gaps, and send their kids to school, and grow and revitalize communities.
Allowing large politically connected businesses to just exit the Canadian labour market, to recruit directly overseas, often through shady or explicitly criminal networks, pay poverty wages, and keep their workforce isolated and weak, is bad for everyone.
