Absolutely and completely agree. Recently it was time to get rid of my VW station wagon as it was becoming unreliable and expensive to fix. I love wagons and hatchbacks. They drive just like a sedan with the same fuel consumption. I needed another wagon, specifically one with a load floor at least 60” long but there are exactly zero new ones in the Canadian market, and the newest used one is already 6 years old. So I ended up with a RAV4 SUV. It’s ok but I’d prefer a wagon. And believe it or not the RAV4’s load floor is three inches shorter than on the VW wagon it replaces (63” vs 66”). I also prefer manual transmissions which my VW has but those have become as rare as pope shit.
In Europe, Toyota sells a nifty Corolla station wagon, a really sharp car. Her in Canada we’re stuck with the unappealing (to me) Corolla Cross small SUV. Its load floor is 12” shorter than the VW’s. Same with the VW Taos which replaces the Golf wagon.
Bring on the European and Asian models!
Immediately allowing good European cars into our market is a great idea, but the article fails to mention that our refusal to allow Chinese EV’s is an extension of the USA’s trade war as their proxy.
