    1. Insofar as preventing people showing support for terrorist organisations…yes?

It’s a bit bloody cheeky for them to claim they’re being prevented from criticising Israel. If they’d said ‚the israeli government are a shower of cunts conducting a genocidal campaign against the free people of Palestine‘ there would be no charge to answer.

It is *that easy* to criticise Israel without having to support islamofascist organisations or delving into antisemetism.

    2. Yeah it probably is, but I’m not about to defend the right to free speech and free association for someone who absolutely wouldn’t do the same for me.

    3. ‘But …. but … it doesn’t count when we are trying to be rebellious and edgy to appeal to teenagers. It is just performative terror group support!’

    4. welsh_cthulhu on

Uh, yes. Yes it is. Terrorism is rooted in politics. It’s the advancement of political beliefs through violence. Terrorists and their supporters need to be policed.

Bright spark this guy, ain’t he.

      Also, r/punchablefaces

Edit: /r/northernireland out in force on here today. Alright lads?!

    5. Everybody is going to say the thing that I agree with so I have decided to say something else.

Why is this guy looking at me like I just said something a bit nasty to his little brother and he wants to intimidate me into being scared of what he might do despite the fact that he really hopes I will just get the message and leave it alone?

I haven’t been following this too closely, but as someone old enough to remember kids being bombed, fuck their Troubles cosplay nonsense. Leave that shit in the past where it belongs.

The Irish sub reddit was furious they were charged for waving a Hezbollah flag, when previously they would at least understood such things were not appropriate.

Ooo Billy big bollocks who want to be punky anti establishment then want to look at legal action against the decision?

      Cake and eat it?

You supported a proscribed terror group, amongst other vulgar things including inciting violence and killings of political persons.

I hope we’ll see all those from the left, who advocated jail time for that woman who tweeted „inciting“ violence during the soutport riots will equally condem these too?

If you want to play politics then you’re going to have politics played back with you

What’s the actual penalty for this likely to be if found guilty?

Is it community service or a few months in prison?

    11. Dull_Holiday_6273 on

It was stupid and they shouldn’t have done it but it is definitely political policing and the crime of waving a Hezbollah flag pales in comparison to the literal war crimes Israeli ministers have been charged with and yet are still allowed to enter the UK by our shower of c***s government.

Terrorism is political violence so you can always claim that anti-terrorism policing is political policing. Doesn’t make supporting terrorism any more acceptable and if you don’t think Hezbollah are terrorists I’d suggest asking some Syrians what horrors were committed against them by Hezbollah.

As someone who is pro-Palestinian this shite infuriates me to no end. “Ooh let us be edgy and wave a flag of an Iranian geopolitical tool”. It was obviously gonna be used by the opposite side as evidence that any and all pro-Palestinians are actually all anti-semites and terrorist sympathisers.

No interest in understanding why Hezbollah is “controversial” (to say the fucking least). Speak to actual Lebanese people who’ve had their PM assassinated by them, who have obfuscated every investigation into the Beirut Port explosion (and who are widely believed to have kept the ammonium nitrate in the warehouses despite warnings) and who have held Lebanon and the Lebanese people to ransom for decades, all to further the aims of the Iranian state. As if they care about Palestinians.

Wanna show solidarity to Palestinians? They actually have their own flag you could’ve waved. Instead, these morons end up actively harming the cause by waving a flag of an Iranian proxy. But obviously researching these things requires an actual curiosity in the politics and history of the region, beyond just ‘ooh let us be edgy and stick it to the establishment’. Silly twats.

He’s a suggestion. Don’t be moronic, and make better choices!! It’s blatantly obvious that supporting a terrorist organisation is a bad idea.

It’s funny they mention about it not going to Crown Court. But don’t nearly all cases go to the Magistrates Court first before going to Crown Court?

    16. GoldenFutureForUs on

You can’t hold up a Hezbollah flag then cry when you’re arrested. Pathetic.

    17. Turbulent-Grade-3559 on

Get real! You knew what you were doing and you knew the consequences at the time. Stop trying to get publicity for your rubbish band

    18. weirdpastanoki on

I’m not convinced waiving a flag should be sufficient evidence of such an offence. I think there should need to be other activities e.g. terrorist activities, raising funds, writing articles, speeches, lyrics, social posts etc for conviction. And the bar should be resonably high imo.

Also, imo artists should have some more leeway for expression than others.

    19. Lion_From_The_North on

Given the definition of terrorism (politically motivated, fear and anger inducing crime), he’s probably right that any anti-terror policing is „political policing“. That’s the reason we do it!

    20. Honestly, it isn’t them that’s annoying it’s the fans.

They are so fucking unbearable. „I’m on the right side of history, I don’t want to get old and be asked why I didn’t do more“

„Thanks for saying this, I love these guys, FREE PALESTINE“

They’re, making music and profiting off losers that tweet all day rather than actually do anything worthwhile with their time. You aren’t the MLK of your time, you aren’t the Suffragettes. You aren’t even Diane Abbott.

It’s embarrassing the amount of slacktism on the left. Jeremy fucking Corbyn had to turn up at a festive just for them to come out of their K-Holes and remember they’ve got the vote before promptly forgetting again.

    21. Theres a bit of a difference between waving a hezbollah flag around and calling out Israel for being a bunch of wankers.

No ones saying you can’t call Israel a bunch of wankers for what they’re doing, what they are doing is saying you can’t support a known terrorist organisation.

    22. This is the „left wing“ (you’re not left wing if you’re supporting Islamic fundamentalism) equivalent of people calling for the murder of immigrants online and then saying they got arrested for mean Facebook posts. It’s grifter behaviour.

    23. fplisadream on

First response they’ve issued that isn’t just face level preposterous, the absolute clowns.

I think the police were put into a position where they couldn’t have done anything else than prosecute, even though the reason it became a decision for them in the first place was a function of politics.

Thing is though, you can’t moan if you commit a crime and don’t get away with it.

    24. ArcticAlmond on

Honestly, it seems like they’ve only got themselves to blame for this.

    25. They support prescribed terror orgs, but at least their record sales will go up!

    26. Glittering-Round7082 on

Yep. Commit a political crime and get subjected to political policing.

It’s not difficult. Don’t support terrorists.
