Thank God for that. The judges are the only ones left with common sense who can act in the interest of the British people
It needs binning off ASAP. Nobody else would even entertain this deal.

Parliament is sovereign this high court judge is overstepping his powers, foreign policy is a reserved matter for the government.
Parliament is also the supreme legal authority.
Why would we give up land and then pay to rent it?
Why would we give up a vital military location, which is an unsinkable air craft carrier.
None of this makes sense especially as USA pays us rent to use the land?

I don’t matter and I am inconsequential, however this whole issue has made me decide to never vote for Labour for as long as I live. It’s just a reflection in the culture of Labour that has festered for decades, the whole we don’t care what you think, we wont explain why we will do it and you should accept it because we know best despite walking us into issue after issue.
Pretty sure the lowly high court judge will see the error of their ways.
It could go all the way to the Supreme Court but the handover is pretty inevitable, especially with the handover of territory, precedent has been set.
Ive tried my best to support alot of what Starmer has been doing generally, but this whole situation is a joke. The deal was started under the Tories, so any of them chatting shit can do one, but he’s had plenty of opportunity to back out of this deal – new government in charge, or just whenever the Mauritians were taking the piss in public.
Im happy with a compromise, perhaps where we give it to the Chagosians and give them rent every year for the base. But paying lump sum to give it away to what is essentially a third party country for shocking amounts of money is just so baffling.
There was some article earlier this week about postponing the deal to a time it was more appropriate (cant remember the wording) and now they try to sneak it in this morning?
Even as a leftist, this shouldn’t be a thing we’re doing. The Chagos Islands were populated by slaves we brought over. There is no indigenous people. Did those people get shafted by us when we came up with BIOT? Yes, and they should be compensated, but this would be like if Algeria got pissy with France for colonisation so France gave the Côte d’Ivoire to it.
Why? Because Mauritius’ entire claim to the Islands is that they were administered under the same colonial entity.
Yeah, y’know what else was under one colonial entity? Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar.
These countries are not arguing in good faith and are taking arguments that anyone would agree are bullshit and somehow standing on them, and because Labour is afraid to be seen as remotely intelligent, they’re more than happy to literally pay for a country to take territory we are already paid by the Americans for. We barely use BIOT. The yanks do, and they pay rent ffs. So not only would a strapped for cash Britain be paying for an island set it already owned for free, it would be paying for an island set it was paid to have.
