      Punishing corporations for raising prices due to tariffs (particularly Wal-mart whose stock is 60% imported from china)??

      This is stupid. It isn’t about Walmart, who can probably eat some of the tariffs; this is about all of the smaller businesses that absolutely can’t. Do you want Walmart to become the retail monopoly in this country? Because making it impossible for small businesses to operate is how you get monopolies.

      Making this about Walmart is a distraction by Republicans, and the media are falling for it.

      What are they going to do? Walmart’s profit margins is 2.7%. They can’t afford to tank 145% tariffs.

      If they try the higher ups will be fired / sued by the shareholders.

      Trump doesn’t care about corporations raising prices on Americans, he just doesn’t want the American consumer to learn why they’re raising prices.

      Rural America is where MAGA lives. Rural America is where Walmart is the only provider of essentials, groceries, and consumer goods. Most of these areas are food deserts with the exception of their one Walmart. Walmart could start adding diseased rat droppings to their ground beef, MAGA has no choice but to eat it. In a lot of these communities, Walmart is also their #1 employer. They have no leverage here. If Walmart decides to close up shop and takes their supply lines with them from MAGA America because they aren’t making enough money, a lot of these people just starve.

      Wallmart has a profit margin of 3%: there is no way they can absorb tariffs. But the fascist in the government don’t care: maintaining the narrative that tariffs don’t affect the consumers is much more important…

      If Wal-Mart does „eat tariffs“ Wal-Mart bottom line will be affected, they will miss earnings targets, stock will tank, etc. Corporations like Wal-Mart prime objective is profit. They may make temporary concessions bc „appearing un-american“ might lose some Customers, altho what options do many Wal-Mart shoppers have? And if Wal-Mart is raising prices bc of tariffs, any/all competitors would likely do the same, no? So stupid…..

      I really don’t get this. If tariffs don’t raise the price on Chinese goods, therefore making American manufacturing more attractive, than what argument is there for tariffs. These policies are logically inconsistent.

      Obviously the answer is that this is largely the nonsensical fever dream of the world’s most egotistical man, but you’d think there would be some attempt to make it make sense.
