Oooo targeted sanctions. That’ll show ‚em. Maybe a strongly worded letter too. If that’s all they have absolutely nothing will change.
Targeted sanctions is way too little, way too late but beats nothing.
We also need to investigate and jail anyone complicit in war crimes committed in Gaza.
The inability to fully condemn the Israeli genocide has been shameful here. Only now that Trump is breaking up with Netenyahu do they feel comfortable saying this. We need to go further then this.
“May risk breaching international law” is a weird way to put “is absolutely breaching international law”.
Aid cannot be used as a bargaining chip, and keeping several million people on the brink of famine at all times isn’t going to help anything except a continuing hatred of Israel.
And no, there’s no exception for “Hamas is stealing it, therefore starvation tactics are okay”
One of the reasons why the offensives seem to be going on longer this time (compared to previous conflicts/flare-ups over the past 20-30 years) is likely that the moment that things normalize, Netanyahu’s government’s position becomes tenuous due to his domestic pre-war unpopularity & corruption charges etc. Escalating serves to keep Israel’s public distracted from internal issues. This also runs the risk of undermining the increased normalization Israel has seen with various neighbors outside of Egypt like Turkey & the Saudi’s etc. (which until Iran and Hamas derailed it with October 7th, was looking like it would have laid the ground work for Palestinian statehood/increased self governance under the Biden peace deal etc.)
Are they proposing threatening military action, including possible air strikes against Israel from British and French bases? Anything less than that and it’s just like dogs howling at the moon.
So, the flight path from Tel Aviv to New York or Washington, DC goes directly over Canadian territory. Next time Netanyahu goes to the US, if they are dumb enough to fly over Canadian airspace, the military should force the plane to land and take him into custody with the ICC.
Maybe Hamas should release the remaining hostages, surrender, and stop being hideous monsters of human beings so that Israel doesn’t have to continue military action in Gaza.
I’m not going to say Israel hasn’t done any wrong , however they’re getting attacked by barbarians literally daily. I’m sure none of the foreign activists protesting them would tolerate that any more if it was them. Any result that leaves Hamas intact just guarantees more of the same disgusting atrocities in the near future.

It’s the most pointed and critical response our government has put forward. While still lacking, it is a sea change from the Trudeau government’s handling of the genocide.
We have few tools to direct change in the Middle East; a joint statement with intention to enact sanctions with European leaders is a solid opening option.
