I’m always a bit confused by this – there’s still shit loads of young Brits (unfortunately…) working out in Ibiza. For smaller bars I’m guessing it’s cash-in-hand type stuff, but I know the larger clubs are pretty on the ball.
You always used to have to queue up (for fucking hours…) to get your NIE anyway, so I’m not sure what has changed now.
Come on the rest of us would like to leave as well!
Do we have any indication that this will be any different from our previous arrangement, where a huge majority of the British youth didn’t use the scheme, but we receive a large number of EU nationals in return?.

Thought one of the points of reducing work visas, etc, was so that we could set up training schemes to get our youth into all those roles instead? Now we want to ship them off to Europe?

Glad for the youth, even tho it’s going to be capped it’s at least a scrap of normality. Wish it was fully reversed so more of us could escape this shit hole of an island.
So now the 5 million unemployed in this country will once again have to compete with the rest of the EU for jobs in the UK. Very good.
So many dumb takes on this scheme. Its not some conspiracy to import loads of workers FFS.
Let’s not forget migration patterns are asymetric.
Far more people want to come into the UK than to leave so if this policy goes ahead, it will be great for the few who want to leave but it will be much worse for the those still here as we’re not going to be able to build enough accomodation or create enough new jobs for the influx.
Net results will be rents continue to soar and salaries stay static.
We could just cap the numbers so we have a 1 in 1 out situation but I dont think that is where the government is heading with this one.

It won’t be good for British jobs, it’ll exacerbate a growing unemployment problem. An unemployment problem Starmer seems to be oblivious to.
In 2010 when the Tories took power, unemployment was 7.7%. When the Tories left office in July 2024, unemployment was 4%.
Starmer seems to think the drop in employment happened „by itself“ and would continue under Labour no matter what Labour did. He doesn’t seem to understand the effort put in by Phillip Hammond and Sunak to create jobs to keep the social peace.
Already unemployment has risen to 4.5% thanks to Rachel Reeves‘ job tax. It’ll get worse as businesses increase automation.
But Starmer wants to increase pressure on the unemployed by importing hordes of EU citizens?
Is he trying to get unemployment back to 7.7% by the next election?
Why is the „workers party“ so careless about jobs?
Wonder what we’ll get for it, considering this is far better for the EU than the UK.
