Yesterday, there was a thread on here about Kristen Stewart saying it’s a sexist fallacy that directors have to have experience in cinema before they make a movie, and I didn’t comment on that thread because the tone was pretty „oh yeah, let’s invest tonnes of money on an unknown quantity, see how fast that fails.“

But Nicole Kidman doing this is what I had in mind at the time. You can’t get experience if no one gives you a shot. All the great male filmmakers have had at lead one dud, if not more. It hasn’t stopped them making more, sometimes better movies.

If they want to save the movie industry, they’re going to need to diversify. I have nothing against Marvel and DC and Mission Impossible and those kinds of movies. But the industry is obviously in need of different ideas, and that starts with trying new things, new perspectives.
