He has no other means of immediate approval, by congress, for any action. He has weaponized the option.
The answer is pretty simple, no? It gives power to bypass Congress and makes him no king
Control.
Is anyone actually asking this? Thought it’s been pretty obvious.
It’s the Our Brand Is Crisis sales pitch. He keeps saying the country is in an emergency and he’s the only person who can fix it.
As long as he screams that immigration is a crisis, no one stops and breathes and looks at just how much information DOGE stole or how much money the Trump family has made in just three months.
As long as he screams that he’s the only one who can fix it, his followers will go out and rip on every Democrat for being too weak or too unable to fix crisis that don’t actually exist.
He needs emergency powers to deal with the disasters he creates.
I think it’s because he has all the personality and characteristics of an insecure carbuncle.

Given the amount of „emergencies“ and „invasions“, he sure does golf a lot.
Because congress stupidly gave the executive branch a ton of ‚emergency‘ or ‚wartime‘ powers instead of doing their damned job.
Donald Trump is the President. That is the emergency.
Because they’re the magic words that trigger a servile sense of obedience from the courts and military.
Politicians have long used FUD to motivate voters. As it often happens with this guy, Trump is an extreme example, but it’s certainly been going on my whole life.
„They’re trying to take away your guns“ vs „They’re trying to take away your healthcare“.
One the above FUD warnings is easily more accurate.
Because it’s a pseudo legal way to assert extreme and extraordinary powers. Duh. He wants to be the dictator.
Because he couldn’t get most of his shit passed by Congress so his only way out is to declare an “emergency” and pass his crap as a response to the “emergency”. But that will catch up to him when the lawsuits hit the courts.
Power Grab.
If he succeeds, Congress and SCOTUS will be in El Salvador.
Stoke fear, unrest, anxiety.
I think the tactic makes one hastily accept there’s someone who is “in charge” and guiding things and that brings some comfort, allegiance.
Anyone intelligent however wonders who is this loon?
Why? Because his group of yesmen are incapable of policy creation, administration and/or governance.
Their only option is to take more power because they can’t work within the system at even a junior employee level.
Jar Jar and the Senate granted Palpatine emergency powers too. Trump’s not smart, but he has smart people around him. Order 66 could come next.

Fascist playbook rule number one, fear will make the people let you do anything you want. „These foreign illegals are SWARMING our country. It’s an emergency! We need to get rid of them NOW without the pesky courts and so called ‚due process‘ getting in the way“
Because, 20 years ago (I know the laws involved are older, but the real cultural shift allowing this is newer) we decided a president could do any damned thing they please if they declared it too urgent to wait for Congress.
Because he is a fascist criminal traitor
He wants a Reichstag Fire so he can assume military control. And, no, the military isn’t going to refuse his order and “save” us. The only people who can save America are Americans—and they’re too apathetic to give a good goddamn about that.
As long as he says what he’s doing is due to „national emergencies“, he can claim it was to protect our democracy and not be charged with crimes against the constitution. The SCOTUS gave him and every president after, a huge loophole to commit crimes.
Because it’s textbook fascism, just a copy and paste of the Reichstag Fire Decree of 1933. Orchestrate emergency, remove basic rights, consolidate power, eliminate opposition. How have so many learned so little from history?
There should be a law stating that during times of emergency or war, the president is not allowed to golf.
