Craft breweries are among those that got an exemption from the counter-tariffs for aluminum can imports from the US, as there’s no Canadian alternative from packaging manufacturers to produce their industry standard 473 mL tallboy cans, and no Canadian packaging manufacturer has been willing to step up to fill in the gap for them.

Without the exemption, craft beer prices sold at retail would have gone up by a material amount, and they cannot simply change their packaging lines for another format, as that cannot be done either cheaply or quickly.
