Hallo Leute.

    Danke

How much is the Cypriot dialect of Turkish spoken today?

It’s still mostly there but is under great pressure from Turkey. Most media, songs even made by Turkish Cypriots often mimic standard Turkish as well news reporter except for a few.

Both young and old Turkish Cypriots talk in their dialect, however some people I have noticed opt out to speaking more standard when speaking to Turkish people. Younger people especially the generation of 2000+ have started to show some decay and standardisation due to the tv shows, turkish brain rot etc they watch on tablets as kids

Cypriot Greek and Turkish shares a vocabulary so there are many words that are used but maybe not as common as in the past. Elders sometimes may use a phrase in Cypriot Greek.

If you are interested in linguistics, you should check out the similarities between Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot dialects. Very interesting.

My family and I speak the dialect on a daily basis. I definitely have been teased by my Turkish friends for my Cypriot slang and dialect.

    4. Cypriot Turks still generally use Cypriot Turkish today but vocabulary and other aspects of the dialect have started to change. Cypriot Turkish and Modern Turkish have a high mutually intelligible. Unlike Cypriot Greek and Modern Standard Greek (as im told). As Cypriot Turkish is colloquial, and Modern Turkish is used in schools. I grew up using words Modern Turkish words such as çatal (fork), kertenkele (lizard), bisiklet (bicycle). Whereas older generation still use piron (fork), alizavra/mişaro (lizard), and velespit (bicycle) respectively. I was often told not to use Cypriot Turkish words because “its old Turkish”. The Cypriot Turkish “melody”, and Verb-Object word order is generally still used, but that’s slowly changing too.

    5. In case of original Turkish Cypriots %100. And there is wierd dynamic, most mainland Turks also thinks its a cute accent and adapt real quick.
