    1. It’s not an accident.  They are testing how much of a backlash they will get and do some rollback if needed.

      >In 2029, Americans making less than $30,000 will actually pay more in taxes under the GOP’s plan than under current law. Americans making less than $15,000 — the poorest of the poor — will pay 53% more in taxes than they do now as their average tax rate jumps from 3.3% to 5.1%. Meanwhile, households making over a million will pay 6.4% less in taxes (totaling an estimated $74 billion collectively), as their average rate falls from 30.8% to 28.7%.

This is so disgusting. These are people who exist on between $1000 and $2000/month. Increasing their tax burden while cutting programs like Medicaid and SNAP is revolting.

No, everyday Americans did *not* vote for this. People were lied to We tried to tell them.

      >But don’t get your hopes up: the holdouts were more conservative representatives who want even more spending cuts to programs like Medicaid. For them, **poor Americans‘ suffering isn’t a budgetary bug; it’s a feature.**

      Preach.

Anyone who has been conscious  at any point since AD 12 knows that these dumb mother fuckers aka conservatives will NEVER help people, unless they already have hundreds of millions in the bank.

I’m guessing that the current administration has chosen 2029 for the changes so they can promise the voters that if they are re-elected they will extend the tax ‘benefits’ for the poor.

The tax rule changes don’t come into effect until 2029.

What’s to stop the next (Democratic) administration from changing the rules as soon as they take over the government?

They can reverse the tax benefits for the ultra wealthy and remove /reduce the tax burden on those on low incomes.

I know a MAGA who keeps saying they are cutting taxes for the less or trying to remove it for the 250k earners. I keep saying I will believe it when I see it.

    7. What are the consequences of simply… not paying? In real terms, not IRS boogeyman terms.

My understanding is that they’ll simply ask you to make a payment plan, then move onto garnishing wages, and then move onto seizing assets. My understanding is that it’s also very rare to have criminal repercussions, unless you perform active tax evasion (e.g. fraud). But simply not paying doesn’t seem to have any real consequence outside of interest and forced payment.

Can anyone chime in if that’s accurate?

And if so… what’s stopping people from just saying „fuck it? “

Particularly considering that the IRS has been gutted.

I stopped paying federal income tax… I put it interest bearing account .I am going to go to the cliff of legality before I pay for-this malfeasance of my tax dollars. I look forward to them dealing with me creating log jams, dragging, kicking and yelling all the way… Then when it gets to the point where it hurts me financially,I will do what is lawful and pay… For now in solidarity to my brother and sisters north and south ELBOWS UP LEAN IN godobe…be citizen. do democracy.

Trump did the same thing last term but the idiots who voted for him didn’t bother reading it then so they’re not gonna read it now

And NONE of this couples the impact his dismantling of the federal government apparatus and „returning to the states“ such things as FEMA and education will have on the average middle class American.

Because no where in his budget are those billions and billions taken in being given back or funded to the states to manage these things. You have a scenario brewing where essentially the federal government says „you do it“ but they don’t pay for it. They keep the money as a WH slush fund and to have some sort of evidence his policies are working with surpluses and such.

But the reality is the only way states, many of them bright red, can ever even possibly find an emergency management type operation is to massively increase taxes. States are going to have to raise property taxes even higher than sky high to fully fund their education needs.

So the miniscule Americans seeing miniscule FEDERAL income tax reductions will also face likely much much higher state income taxes, property taxes, and sales taxes. It’s not hard to project that many of these states will see their populations flee for likely blue states. I don’t see how Florida manages hurricane damage without implementing a state income tax. Or how Texas doesn’t implement a state income tax to make up for these major federal shortfalls. I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say without Democrat intervention at the midterms, or courts enforcing their rulings, or the people rising up by 2029 and the full brunt of the Trump admin taking hold that there will be states just financially decimated.

    11. We already knew that.

See the tariffs – that ‚won’t raise prices‘ – that ’someone else will pay‘ – that we are ending up paying. Who do you think those are going to crush the hardest?

    12. Tax plan: Line Trumps pockets by milking the US economy and making people suffer

    13. Interesting-Risk6446 on

We all knew the truth. When the same bill was passed by Republicans in 2017, taxes increased for middle and poor starting in 2026. Now, it will happen in 2029. .

    14. Its ok, the MAGA racist doesnt care as long as theyre sticking it to the left. Theyre starting to show propaganda commercials of trump saying inflation is down, gas is at an all time low, pretty everything thats not even true! Lolz im sure his people will believe it. I just watch it and laugh , where this 1.98$ gallon gas at, anyone find it yet.

Republicans desperately trying to bring back slavery.

    16. With the way some of these comments sound we should be fine because all the past presidents policies will kick in during trumps term and we will build back bigger right?

Let’s see, tax hike for the poor, and (checks notes) abolishing public and veteran healthcare. Also cutting worker rights.

So the poor are basically treated as vermin?

    18. I keep seeing the percentages, but what is the tax change in absolute dollars?

Because they’ve softened the targets enough for the base to accept it. My MAGA freinds are calling any higher taxes or tariffs a „Patriot Tax“. My crazy neighbor down the street with the largest flag in the neighborhood told me that.

    21. I’m not accepting it. I’m saying something has to be done before then or we will never get there.
