I don’t think we have any reason for concern. If Russia was capable of fighting wars, they would be about done in Ukraine. Them starting a new front and bringing whole of NATO would be so abysmally stupid that there are literally zero ways for such a move to pass from the national leader, through close cabinet, to the military. The state of Ukraine conflict would be entirely different if we commit more to support and simply accepted that a rogue state for a neighbor is an existential crisis, not just a financial burden we have to go over every time we consider a care package.

This is posturing. It is a display that Russia is supposedly still a serious advesary. It is to show internally that they are confident and externally that they are capable.

A cardboard cutout drives the same purpose and for all we know, we are looking exactly at those. If we wanted to avoid a fight at our border we would be wise to make sure Russia is humiliated in Ukraine first and foremost.
