    1. 3 MPs, huh? Interesting magic number that the Liberals need to form a majority.

Would be a shame for the NDP to lose those MPs over Davies’ appointment. They’ll need to give them a good reason to stick around.

Liberals would be wise to sit back and let it play out.

This is terrible for the NDP in the short term, but perhaps good in the long term. They needed a serious reset and maybe this is what it will take. It should not be business as usual for them. Civil war after a major defeat sounds bad on its surface though.

Manufacturing this kind of drama over something as unimportant as an interim leader is utterly embarrassing.

I thought Kwan and Idlout in particular knew better than to do stupid shit like this.

It was always stupid for the unelected national council to appoint a leader instead of having caucus select it like every other party does. This is especially true, because it’s the same party executive that screwed the pooch in historic faction in running the campaign,. Not letting the handful of MPs who were able to overcome the colossal incompetence of the national leadership and executive to select the interim leader is just a huge unforced error.

Davies needs to immediately resign, and they need to re-select the interim leader. If he digs his feet in, he’s going to blow this entire thing up to the point it might be the death of the party. On top of that, let’s not forget that Jenny Kwan is very familiar with organizing leadership revolts – she was the one that led the revolt that ousted Carole James as BC NDP leader years ago.
