A producer who pitched DHS a reality show for U.S. citizenship is defending the concept, insisting it’s not the dystopian nightmare critics fear.

“This isn’t ‘The Hunger Games’ for immigrants,” producer Rob Worsoff said of his show *The American*, which is reportedly under review by DHS. Worsoff—who himself emigrated from Canada—said he wants the show to come across as “hopeful” and a “celebration of what it means to be an American citizen.”

According to Worsoff, *The American* would see [immigrant contestants](https://www.thedailybeast.com/kristi-noem-wants-migrants-to-compete-for-citizenship-on-hunger-games-style-reality-show/) face off in a series of contests, competing for fast-tracked U.S. citizenship. But he insisted that no one would be kicked out of the country if they lost.

These people are disgusting. Everyone who supports this is disgusting.

The concept already is. You’ve already hit a new low if it even gets to a pilot episode.

    4. Maybe actually seeing it will cause some „oh my god, what have we done“ reactions.

This is ABSOLUTELY a dystopian nightmare of a show.

Don’t normalize this type of behavior.

„Won’t Be a Complete Dystopian Nightmare“

Of course it won’t… they’ll leave all that out… make ICE look like the kind hearted person just looking out for everyone and helping our communities.

      It’s call propaganda.

The fact that he even conceptualized this and followed through pitching it to DHS is something else. It’s as American as it gets though; no empathy, no sympathy, dehumanizing, and anything for a dollar.

There is quite literally no way this can exist without it being the epitome of complete dystopian nightmare

    9. Kristi Noem is psychopath. There is going to be a day where she is on trail for crimes against humanity.

Oh, so we’re at Death Race level of dystopia now.

      Cool cool cool cool cool

    11. Oh that makes me feel better, I’m glad she clarified.

It’s just gonna be a show where an audience watches a desperate person compete for their lives and if they lose, they’re arrested by armed guards and detained to maybe eventually get sent home. Or possibly die in custody.

Not dystopian at all, because she said it wasn’t.

      >producer Rob Worsoff

Fitting name, since we’re all so much Worsoff with these clowns in charge.

    13. The idea that anyone in any position of power even entertains the idea is a complete dystopian nightmare.

    14. Every day is a brand-new low. Next up: “The Running Man” style gamesshows for violent criminals

I’ve met people who went through the citizenship process.  This is so degrading to the people who want to immigrate to the United States.  We went from bring „me your poor and your hungry“ to „your the next contestant on becoming a us citizen.“

    16. Winner will get american citizenship, all remaining will rot in El Salvador camp.

    17. Just call it what it is. “Revenge” Porn.

(because the narrative is that American lives would be fundamentally and significantly better, if only it weren’t for those pesky ~~billionaires, and their corporate lobbyists~~ illegal immigrants.)

    18. Or why not put this effort and money into fixing the courts that hear immigration cases?

      Wouldn’t that be more responsible?

    19. The show is not a dystopian nightmare. That would be the society that conceived of it.

The tragedy isn’t merely that this could happen, but that it could be imagined, suggested, and taken seriously. If this falls through, there’s some other atrocity they have in their pocket.

Owen Morgan (Telltale) called it. Next will be hunting the homeless for sport.

It’s fucking squid games in real life. Win and you’re in, lose and you’re deported to El Salvadoran prison.

It’s sick, it’s „The Running Man“ kind of sick. The Trump administration is reducing America to its lowest denominator while trying to sell their racist bigoted hate as making America great again. I don’t know that the American people will ever recover what was perceived as „American Spirit“ in the world’s eyes once the Trump administration is through.
