      What’s with California setting weird one-off minimum wages for specific industries? How do you rationalize a $30 minimum wage but only if you work for a hotel?

      Problem I see is this… whatever that pay discrepancy is between my current wage and minimum wage, I will expect that difference to be made up.

      Imagine devoting X years to a job finally making 30 hr and someone gets that overnight.

      I like the idea, but this is not free money. It’ll cause massive layoffs and increased prices. That’s a huge change to enact all at once. Ballot measure 1 here in Alaska raises the minimum wage in increments every year.

      I wish minimum wage was based on something like wage disparity between employees and total revenue or something.
      It’s one thing for a small business paying less, it’s another for amazon paying the same.

      Wealth inequality will not be solved in any meaningful way by raising the minimum wage. It will lead to rampant inflation, job losses, and faster adoption of AI. The economically vulnerable will be paying the price. Different measures need to be taken that will make the wealthy pay.

      Is an atheist allowed to say that hoarding resources is sinful? Access to food and healthcare should be a human right. Not just for the US, for the entire world.

      Instead, we’ve decided that greed is a virtue.

      bro. At what point are you not helping erase the middle class? It needs to be everyone against the rich. We need a universal income. $30 when some of the US is still at $7. $30 is what a lot of very educated people make.

      This isn’t helping anyone. You’re just voting to solve the issue for you. Not everyone else.

      And yes I realize it’s for hotels.

      I’ve been in different customer service jobs for $30 years. This only solves your issue and I guarantee you’ll pull up the ladder before helping anyone else.

      Setting such a drastically higher minimum wage than everywhere else just incentivizes industries to leave and find cheaper labor. A lot of businesses are leaving this state and as a result we are loosing income tax revenue.

      I’d love a $30 minimum wage for all workers regardless of industry, but only with the stipulation that we have a maximum wage and a maximum level of wealth. Of course, that has to be federal (or at least state), otherwise everyone will just immediately move to the suburbs.

      Similarly, the government SHOULD fund education, but not in the form of blank checks to universities that immediately raise the tuition.
