A century-long pattern that our free-willed society will collectively never understand so long as this is wrapped in bigotry and other lizard brain-tickling things.

    2. The great thing about this is no company in their right mind will bring manufacturing to the US because they know the American public won’t work for cheap like other country’s laborers can and are willing to do. So they aren’t going to spend a dime in building infrastructure in American and have to re-establish a new supplier chain in America as well, that again, won’t be cheap to build and won’t have a cheap labor force behind.

The *sole* value of conservatism is respect for and obedience to [one’s perception of] traditionally established hierarchy, and hierarchy dictates that those on top (in-groups) are rightfully idolized and receive privileges, credibility, and resources, while those on the bottom (out-groups) are demonized/dehumanized and bound by restrictions, scrutiny, and lack of resources.

To them, the second-greatest injustice imaginable is for those [they perceive to be] on the bottom [of social hierarchy] to have access to the rights, credibility, and resources reserved for those on top. The first greatest injustice is for those on top to be bound by the restrictions, scrutiny, and lack of resources reserved for those on the bottom.

„Know your place“ is their mantra.

Don’t think any reasonable people ever had doubts about this…oh yeah I see the problem with my statement now.

The title made me so nauseous, I can’t read the article. My depression is already in full swing today. Time for a walk in the redwoods

Yep. Always has been. Any working class American voting Republican is a fool…

    7. Americans keep voting them in power … so they must like the abuse…I mean why.. they are likely to vote tRuMp in again if he runs a third time.. it’s hard for us non Americans to understand.. however it seems like most Americans like this form of government

They don’t hate us. Who hates cattle? They would have to see us as people in order to hate us.

    9. And _Common Dreams_ wants the same thing as the GOP, which is why the paper pushes Green Party spoiler candidates.

    10. Lmao at this point who gives a shit what republicans have to say about anything. Whatever they say do the opposite, and move on!

That’s not really required. But rich people don’t always make the best or most optimal decisions. And it’s not just rich people who determine or influence economic policy, anyway. Lots of Republican idiots do that too. We don’t have a meritocracy. And not every decision is successful at bringing about its intended outcome. There are probably a bunch of people who do want to keep other people poor. But that doesn’t mean they’ve figured out it’s the best way for companies to be profitable. They could just be idiots or malicious. It doesn’t have to be a conspiracy.

And yes, the GOP hates everyone except themselves. But they don’t necessarily want people to be poor so much as they want everyone to obey them and believe that such obedience to them is the only path to happiness and prosperity.

Does Common Dreams have an internal competition for the most sensationalized headline of the week or something?

It’s like the GOP feel like the best policy is to „prestige“ like in COD, and then we get to rank up again in competitive.

A lot of people would also rather be poor and try to make do than work at a terrible job. It’s not early 1900s where everyone worked in factories for peanuts. And automation cuts down on human workforce. So instead of working the factory ppl could have jobs fixing the automatons.

    15. Ok_Investigator_3788 on

But if we are all poor, dumb, diseased, and dead, who buys all the shit that makes em rich?

    16. Wealth is solely the exploitation of the work of others. Not saying that in a bad way as this quest for wealth is what drives innovation in healthcare, science, overcoming of even worst past etc… it is a long term benefit for all in exchange for a short term negative for a portion of the population.

Are we going to stop them? Republicans will still vote for them over and over again

My grandfather supported a family of 5 – wife not working – had a house, a car, medical, etc..- because he had a UNION job.

He had a PENSION because of the UNION. He didn’t have to eat dog food to stay alive. He didn’t have to beg for medical.

This idea that manufacturing jobs pay more is because of UNIONS.

Otherwise without a UNION, you have a low paying shit job.

So do democrats** just by passively laying down to the right and halting any meaningful progress left.

    21. I drove through our rural town today upon the hour the worst off of our residents attempted to shop and have their needs met. And it occurred to me these elderly, disabled, and afflicted as they are are about to die or further digress into such a state they will no longer be staggering or creeping to the Walmart or clinic, but simply dying in the gutters and alleys. Dying and rotting. Or covered in plauge lesions and dying.

Where children play. Where people with money will see. Where normal healthy people will see as they shop. Where the rich will stumble over them.

They are all about creating cheap labor and have been working toward this end for decades

Not for long. Real AI is coming to a corporation near you. And the C-Suite’s goal isn’t just to replace tasks with the current shitty-AI, but to replace workers entirely with the next generation of AI.

Does having an open border and unlimited immigration not literally create a steady and reliable supply of cheap labor?
