Sir Keir Starmer will appeal to European leaders to get his Brexit reset over the line amid last-minute rows over fishing rights, youth mobility and defence.

The prime minister will hold a series of bilateral meetings with senior European figures at a summit in Tirana, Albania, on Friday as he tries to see off eleventh-hour demands from Brussels for concessions.

The prime minister said he was “confident” that Britain would reach a deal before meeting with EU leaders on Monday, but senior government figures said he would not sign an agreement that was “not in the national interest”.

“We will not be pushed around,” they added.

Starmer is expected to use talks on the sidelines of the meeting to push back on fresh demands from Brussels for concessions in several key areas of the reset, including fishing and youth mobility
