      Maybe don’t be quite so militant about wanting to empty our waters of fish and destroy our marine environment as a price for letting us help you keep Europe safe? That might be all the revamp of relations needs, Emmie.

      The EU is increasingly exposed: Russian aggression, an unstable US election cycle, internal fragmentation, and weak defense capabilities across the bloc.

      The UK, despite Brexit, remains a top military, intelligence, and energy power. Macron’s vision of European “strategic autonomy” simply cannot work without British cooperation. So this sudden change of tone isn’t a moral shift. It’s a tactical pivot. The EU is beginning to realise that isolating Britain was a luxury it could only afford in peacetime.

      Let’s not forget the pattern: weaponised fishing disputes, vaccine nationalism, trade barriers in Northern Ireland, constant public scolding. The message was clear, If you leave, you pay. This wasn’t just policy, It was political theatre. The EU needed to make an example of the UK to discourage other states from considering an exit. It was about internal control as much as external punishment.

      Now Macron wants a reset. Fine. Real reinvention starts with respect, not conditions.

      Okay so I have a strong connection to my European identity and want closer ties to Europe for our country. That’s said… this is pretty rich. As of late it feels as though France attempts to fuck us left right and centre for having the gall to leave the EU.

      I agree we need to reinvent relations. And that means stop being so hostile in negotiations with us.
