Kanadas Konservative flirten vor Gefahr

Some useful details and reminders:

>One vote. That’s all that separated the Liberal and Bloc Quebecois candidates in the riding of Terrebonne after a judicial recount that moved the Liberals one seat closer to a majority government. Unfortunately, it’s also apparently all that separated some Conservative Party of Canada candidates from flirting with election conspiracy theories — the very sort that now defines the MAGA brand of conservatism they spent the election disavowing.

The direction that the Conservatives and their supporters are going in is one that poses significant challenges to the democratic process in this country. Democracy depends in part on having a well educated and engaged public, and dealing in conspiracy theories undermines both. If they want to be considered a serious party worthy of consideration, they should start behaving like one again.

Coincidentally, my parent’s neighbour in the Peterborough riding is going fucking nuts right now. He has Fuck Trudeau signs all over his yard and on his house, and he’s posting a bunch of American style election conspiracy shit.

He was always a little odd, but I think this election broke him.
