I don’t know when I will be able to return to Baku. But I am sure the one I will find will be no more.

They are destroying the „real“ Baku, and replacing it with a Dubai-ish but at the same time Asghabat-like flashy yet empty city without a soul. They do that to one of the most „soulful“ cities in the world. No words.

Historical sites are meant to preserve and teach about them, generation by generation, not to demolish or destroy them to make Dubai-like buildings. This act will affect the prestige of Azerbaijani Architecture.

It was obvious many years ago that people in charge don’t care about the history of Baku but only money. Every year I come to Baku, it is a different city. I don’t really have any childhood associations with the city anymore. It feels like any other city to me, but worse in many respects. Even the people I used to hang out with left it.
Even some of my acquaintances who are pro government, love the city, acknowledge the fact that Baku is changing too rapidly. Every new building, even the park, seems to be fake, artificial, and alien due to poor design choices that do not resemble the history.
