It seems to me that modern conservatism is not about supporting community at all, but about how individuals can benefit from society without paying back to it.

They haven’t had sight of it since Mulroney in the 80s. Poilievre was the first one in a long time to pretend like he did. For the last forty years, the conservatives have pushed a lot of unpopular policies that did not resonate with the general Canadian voter at all (e.g., Barbaric Hotline, ending Martin’s childcare plans, no climate change plan, ending carbon pricing for some weird green investment fund tax credit, anti-woke attacks on universities and other culture war stuff, etc). They always have something unpopular they are trying to push that only a small portion of the country wants.

It’s always so funny to me when people wax poetic about how great conservatism used to be and modern conservatism just sucks 😔 like nah bro conservatism has been an awful ideology that makes the world a worse place since its inception. The worst PM in our recent history (Brian Mulroney) was a “progressive conservative”, it certainly isn’t just the modern iteration proposing damaging policy. Hell if anything modern conservatives are less bad because their BS is so incredibly obvious to see through.

lol have you see the state of conservatism world wide and consequences of conservative policy making? Conservatism and neoliberalism as an ideology needs to die but won’t

What madness is this? Conservatives do not believe in ’society‘. Hence their hell-bent quest to de-fund government programs, spread fear and division, and basically privatize everything, including the air and water.

The Reform party was a rebranding of the old Social Credit Party. They were religious authoritarians who ran a eugenics program that sterilized Indigenous Women.
