Only if Biden hadn’t run for a second term. By the time he dropped out of the race it was too late for that.

    2. There was a primary, nobody worthwhile wanted to run against the incumbent.

When people say they wanted a primary what they actually mean is they wanted more choices because they didn’t like the ones they had.

      Cool.

There’s a lot that you can do in your high level position right now, Senator Klobuchar.

Biden, like Ruth Bader-Ginsburg, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Sonia Sotomayor, prioritized themselves and their „legacy“ over the future of the country, clinging to power because they couldn’t face retirement and the closing of that chapter of their lives.

      Trump is their legacy.

I have lost all respect for Klobuchar because she keeps voting for Trump’s people’s confirmations. She is a part of the old guard Democrats. Still hanging on to the old way of doing things…maintaining the “decorum” because it suits her political ambitions.

It’s true, but it doesn’t matter now. Until the current batch of geezers running the party dies they won’t do anything about it.

Oh perfect she solved it. The world is all better now. Thanks Amy.

    8. Hindsight is 20/20. Who knows if the optimal path to victory? Every news source looked over Trump’s mental state, and magnified Biden/Harris’s foibles.

    9. Would of, could of, should of…

Perhaps it would be better if politicians AND the press focused on the present and future.

    10. You know what Democrats could do now? Rail against propaganda engrained in the Republican Party. Thanks, Amy.

    11. My mom was a psychic. She had a premonition about December 7.

Gee, that’s neat. Did she tell anyone?

No, she didn’t have the premonition till December 9th.

It takes months to run a primary, so if Democrats had done what Republicans wanted them to do last year the election would have been over before the Democrat primary could be completed, and whoever won the primary, which almost certainly would have been Kamala anyway, would not have had any time to campaign if the primary concluded before November 5th. The whole „they should have had a primary“ narrative is a GOP propaganda play anyway, it’s a spurious argument meant solely to keep Democrats turning on each other while Republicans steal us blind and sell us out to Russia.

The US would have been better served if they had primaried Biden in 2024. His popularity was as low as or lower than Trump’s was. Biden and/or Harris stood little chance of defeating Trump or any other Republican in the last election.

    14. Fuck this. Honestly… watch the interview. She’s not wrong with her actual point which is „don’t talk about what could have been, focus on the now and stop trump from killing us all“

I agree but also I really don’t think a better candidate would have made a difference. People were voting for Trump, not against Kamala. I don’t think there were Democrats who were staying home because they didn’t like Kamala, and I don’t think there were on-the-fencers who would have voted for a different Democrat. Yeah, Biden could have and should have not decided to run again. But I don’t think that cost us the election.

    16. Maybe she’s right, maybe she’s wrong.

I’d counter by saying we’d also have been better off if Klobuchar hadn’t smiled her ass off through Trump’s confirmation and instead her and other weak ass Dems acted like they had a fucking spine and moved to invoke the insurrection clause against Trump to avoid this entire mess to begin with.

      Klobuchar sucks.

I vaguely remember there being almost complete silence from Democratic politicians on there needing to be an open primary.

Everyone is “right” now because hindsight is 20/20. Biden should have kept true to his promise of being a one term president but democrats outside of Dean Phillips had the gumption to say it out loud until a political crisis was unfolding before our eyes.

      They all messed up.

And even then, I don’t think any Democrat would have won. I think Trump’s victory was inevitable (or near inevitable).

    18. Wouldn’t have mattered. The hate in this country was too great. The brainwashing too complete.

    19. Establishment third way Democrats always say the truth about after it is too late to do anything. They will always do nothing when we need them to do something. They will always act fast when their donors want them to do something.

    20. For the people who didn’t want Kamala Harris, it could had been worse, we could have had HRC 2.0 Amy Klobuchar

    21. Almirante_Lychee on

The Democratic Party is part and parcel of this problem.

No, I don’t think they are the solution, going forward. That party needs dramatic changes in its power structures. It also needs to detach itself from the intelligence agencies, and it also has to sharply tilt left

    22. No shit. But timing wasn’t really on our side. Also, I truly believe we would have been in much worse shape if they would have passed on Kamala. I recall Roland Martin saying if you pass on the black woman to nominate another white guy, you’ll lose a lot of the black vote. And I think there is truth to that.

    23. There should always be a proper, competitive primary even if there is a sitting president.

The biggest problem with doing this is probably the advertising expense. A constitutional amendment to limit spending for political advertisements seems like a good idea, and while we are at it close a bunch of the other bribery loopholes.

    24. The bigger issue is that Joe Biden is now an albatross around the neck of the party. Why should I ever trust these lying liars ever again to tell the truth and do the right thing for the country? Where is the investigation into the people that enabled and collaborated on this suicide mission? Will they ever be held accountable for forcing an unfit candidate onto us while telling us to not believe our own eyes and ears? I have no hope for these things, just like I have no hope for my party and my country.

And the sky is blue. Too little too late. Should have said something in 2023.

Doesn’t matter. Stop fixating on the past. Energize for the present and future.
