      He is not „some kind of Cypriot Salvini“ because Feidias doesn’t have any solid political compass or opinions, even in the sense of having bad ones like Salvini does. He is stupid, vain, and easily manipulated.

      Nonetheless, there were two posts about Feidias voting in Putin’s interest and visiting Moscow, and both there and through countless other posts about him over the last year you can see exactly what people here think of him. No need to reiterate everything ad nauseam.

      TLDR warning.

      Historically, Cyprus had very strong connections with the USSR/Russia. Many European countries had that, but a couple of reasons made Cyprus stand out: it had a very large and influential communist party that was pro-Soviet, there was (and still is) huge anger and contempt at Britain for its overall policy in the Cyprus issue and its maintenance of military bases despite the wishes of most locals, much of the political center was also willing to maintain ties to Russia due to anger at the British, and after 1981 the socialist government in Greece also encouraged good relations with Moscow, but still also pushing for a pro-EEC agenda (as the EU was then known).

      Cyprus’s role as a tax haven that Russian oligarchs can use is often criticized, but most locals will point at the hypocrisy of Limassol real estate being accused of money laundering while London real estate is fair game. The tax haven status actually began in the 1970s and was intended to take advantage of wealthy Arab businessmen leaving Beirut due to the civil war.

      Most local Cypriots do not support the Russian war in Ukraine, and in fact believe in territorial integrity and state sovereignty as a matter of absolute necessity, due to the Turkish occupation. But they are also fed up with the EU being so vocal about Russian-occupied Ukraine while slapping only cosmetic sanctions on Turkey for occupying parts of Cyprus. But unlike Britain, the EU is not seen as an enemy, only as a very inconsistent and ineffective actor that has no time for local needs. In other issues like environmental legislation or administrative reform, there is support for EU initiatives.

      Fidias himself does not really seem to have any genuine political ideology, only anger at „the system“, punctuated by immaturity.

      Feidias knows which way his toast is buttered. He is the human manifestation of YouTube product-placement. A vacuous moron, who exists solely as a vehicle for sundry sponsorships.

      I wouldn’t call Fidias a Salvini-type figure. Most of his public positions actually lean toward the left, and he has even expressed interest in joining the European Greens in the past.

      That said, I don’t think he holds any real political convictions. He just follows whatever direction he thinks will boost his popularity. Even during his YouTube days, he was known for pulling off pranks and harassing people for views. That pattern hasn’t changed, he’s always been driven more by self-promotion than principle.
