Also war ich heute in Lidl und der gesamte Cheddar ist sicherlich markiert. Keiner der anderen Käse. Nur der Cheddar. Ist es wirklich so hoch wie ein Diebstahlziel? 👮🏻🧀

    1. Yes. Same as salmon, electric toothbrush change heads, chocolate and razor blades.

    2. Because junkies keep stealing them. Amfetamine and cheese, classic combination.

Fun fact: cheese is the most stolen food in the world.

Not sure why cheddar specifically in this case though. Price probably?

Junkies stealing it? Easy product to sell as it doesn’t matter if cold chain has been broken. And okay ish price probably some kebab shop buying illegally.

Cheese is one of the most shoplifted items in the world. Google cheese + shoplifting, there’s loads of research about it.

[A story from a couple years ago](https://yle.fi/a/74-20018140), though that was parmesan not cheddar.

Yeah. Shops have rolls of security tags. They stick whatever is stolen frequently.

Because people steal them for re-sale wherever it is that you live/that Lidl is located in. For context, where I live neither of the 2 nearby Lidls need security tags on their cheese. I’ve only ever seen the e-sec. tags on whole filet mignons and other pieces of expensive meat here.
