The Trump angle was unexpected tbh
Either JD Vance is a complete curveball dunce in the WH administration, or is he is happy to play the role of curveball dunce.
Two days after calling the conflict “none of our business”, it emerges Rubio and others (including perhaps Vance himself) from the WH have forced through a ceasefire.
On the one hand is reassurance that the US is still “there” when required to step in and enforce order, but on the other it feels more reactive and hesitant that in years gone by.
After India losing brand new fighter jets and Pakistan getting it’s capital bombed both nations probably didn’t see anything to be gained in further escalation. India supposedly took out many of the terrorists and their infrastructure at least.
It goes to show you how precarious “peace” is and how weak the mechanisms the peace depend on are. Had this gone on a little longer this might’ve devolved into all our fighting. Arguably this was already a war, since military targets were being struck.
To the crowd that says “nothing happens”: nothing happens so long as mechanisms and pressure are applied. The minute we have global powers that are too distracted or inwards facing, it collapses.
