US Corporations have never, ever embraced long-term planning or goals.

1. He’s a buffoon who is high on his own inflated ego. 2. He’s lived his whole life in a social, financial and family business bubble. 3. His “businessman” skills are limited because of #2 and because the Trump Organization is hundreds of paper companies with maybe a few dozen employees in total. 4. Those businesses have never involved retail or manufacturing. An example of Dunning-Kruger run amok, he doesn’t know what he doesn’t know. 5. No one has ever told him “No!”

Killing investment is science and technology. Killing investment in scalable energy. Killing education. Killing immigration. Killing the supply chain. Killing the economy.

All we have to do is build the factories that build the parts that we use to build factories.

It’s ironic that to address the issue of the U.S. outsourcing manufacturing and paying others to produce cheap goods, the solution is to make everything more expensive domestically. So now, we pay more and get less, and somehow that’s supposed to make us better off?

Possible, not probable. 

Something people to fail to realize is that the US simply lacks the ability to support domestic manufacturer.

Let’s say I have an idea for an electronic. I can go to Schenzen China where there are plants ready to work, employees trained, engineers to help design, and a logical way to ship it by sea and air without any unnecessarily delay or red tape. If we need raw parts just about everything is available in the city. Any problems can be smoothed over by talking to a local official as the government in China is insanely business friendly apart from IP theft but I don’t think the US protects IP anyways.

None of this was ever about opening factories in the US. The stunning apathy behind that poster and its made-up numbers demonstrates how little they care about even having a plan. It’s just a way for Trump to shake down nations and corporations for bribes. We need to stop pretending this was ever about anything else.

tldr; Can’t manufacture here because all the raw materials also have tariffs, making it too expensive. Additionally, the tariffs come and go so quickly, no one can form a business plan based on tariffs that might disappear at any moment based on Trump’s whims.

I still ask this question of every republican willing to talk politics with me: „Would you rather your children work in a mine / factory or in an office / at home?“ They all say at in an office, and I say well why are we trying to bring back all of these factory jobs then? Somehow it still never clicks for them. Its always how their lives are different and only their children deserve education and good jobs. The only good way to bring manufacturing back to the US is slowly, and through massive amounts of automation that has very low job yield.

Supply chain is one of the most fundamental parts of manufacturing.

For example, the reason that computer processors aren’t made in America isn’t just because cheap labor in Taiwan, it’s also because America completely lacks the supply chain, super advanced equipment, and expertise required to make them.

You can’t tariff your way into Americas producing chips without solving ALL of the other problems first.

Maybe if we had the fabs, the supply chain, the expertise, and the workforce then you could tariff (I guess?) to make US production competitive.

But that’s assuming Trump’s goal is to create US manufacturing when the actual goal is to destroy the economy.

I think Trump accidentally told the truth when he said that manufacturing will return to the US. It’s just going to be in a post-Trump, post-recession world, under Europe and/or China’s terms and not ours.

The first world is always looking for people desperate enough to make their clothes, toys, and assorted bits and parts for them as cheaply, efficiently, and for the lowest pay possible, and the current regime is doing a great job at engineering American dependency on the rest of the world going forward by destroying all of our bargaining chips and valuable assets.

I am almost willing to bet good money that what he is doing to the USA is *exactly* how he ran his businesses.

And not only that, he really is ignorant. I don’t mean stupid. I mean incapable of grasping a new concept in any way because he learned *one* way, and that is the *only* way it can be done. There are no neural pathways to be created here. There is no synapse firing there. It is not biologically possible for him to maintain a new or complex thing.

And because of all of that, his family or handlers or parents or whoever was in charge of teaching him things and then correcting deviant behavior, fucked off and let him do whatever he wanted and then let him fail, over and over. And not once did anyone tell him how massive and epic of a fuck up he really is. He’s never been told no, and people go out of their way to force it on everyone else.

And America gave this man a job, twice.

This is what happens when the uneducated get to run things. I don’t really care how condescending or mean this sounds. I’m so over giving these people the benefit of the doubt, accepting they have different beliefs, or giving their ideas a chance. They’re dumb, their ideas are dumb, and their “leaders” are grifters who have tricked them into thinking they’re their friends… because they’re so dumb…

Like if you’re so mad you can’t make good money doing god knows what and you hate that “liberal, college-educated” people get to live in the fancy cities, work from home, and have good wages then GO TO SCHOOL AND BETTER YOURSELF LIKE THEY DID instead of trying to cut everyone down to your level. I’m just so over it.

Anyone with any sense already knew this. How the fuck do you build when the materials required are from the countries you’ve declared a trade war with?

This is why companies use change management for big shifts instead of the rug pull shit he’s doing and did with DOGE as well. If we wanted manufacturing back in the states that’s a mutli-year endeavor, not a wave of the wand. What a genius businessman who is good at businessing!
