Crazy how this positive news story (for Sunderland and the Lab govt) has absolutely no comments, but a negative story has hundreds of comments in a similar timeframe, almost like those posts are boosted by bot accounts.
This is great news. However, we are paying companies to be viable here. Its very soviet union tbh. If we were in Europe, we wouldn’t need to be paying so much to support high profile infrastructure.

I only hear about them in two contexts;
1. They’re getting another massive pile of support from the country via programs like this.
2. They’re complaining and saying ‚fuck the rest of the country, what about me?!‘.

While yes this should be good news, their main client will be Nissan who is currently circling the shitter. the plant could be surplus to requirements before being built. If Brexit wasn’t a thing it wouldn’t be that bad as it could supply Renault who currently uses AESC for their batteries.
Toyota won’t be making EVs here for a long time, JLR won’t order in quantities which make sense, BMW keeps delaying the move from China for their electric Minis.
This entire plant relies on Nissan staying alive.
