Als meine Frau fragte, was der Deal sei, den sie respektieren, um zu ficken, ist es eine Tradition. Auch wenn es wahr ist, ist Tierquälerei und muss so schnell wie möglich aufhören. Warum erlaubt ihr Malteser diese Verrücktheit?

Look man, I dislike this too but people are too stubborn to admit it’s animal cruelty.
Like you said, they keep using „tradition“ and „They can’t live on their own“ as excuses.
Same for those „Hunters“ who go and shoot endangered birds with shotguns because „tradition“. For the hunters no one has the balls to do anything about it because politicians want their votes
Yeah it’s not great but also chill out dude, what your wife did sounds pretty impolite and there are other ways to try make the world better then go to people who have other habits and being condescending in their face.
Did you fly to Malta? Isn’t that killing the environment too?
If it were let out it would be shot by hunters in 5 minutes. So probably a luckier bird in Malta.
The younger generations are getting more conscious and caring about this, but it’s still sad that many maltese have this culture(?) of treating animals horribly. We commonly see situations like that or even worse, with many birds locked together in small cages, or at the zoos which I’ve been hearing that animals are kept in horrendous conditions amidst literal shit piles and cubicle cages. And the government doesn’t care much.
How the fuck is this arguable???? Lmao as a Maltese person this is bullshit. It’s not the past anymore, if you really love animals then you should leave these birds the fuck alone and set them free wtf…?
There is an animal association i can contact in Malta? That poor bird cannot even open the wings.
I heard that these are the cages people use to take their bird outside under their arms and that the bird is normally in a bigger cage. I’ve even been told that the bird goes into the tiny cage by themselves in order to go outside. I don’t think this is the case here (why not hang the bigger cage outside?) and I’m not sure how prevalent this practice is as opposed to just keeping the bird in the tiny cage all it’s life.
As some point, the Maltese people of old picked up the hobby of capturing and caging small birds and taking said bird/s with them wherever they go.
If you go to any old school bar in Malta, where a lot of old folks go for their morning tea and chat, you’ll find one or two with the bird cage on the table.
Nowadays it’s not as popular, but you can still find some bird catchers roaming around, especially in more rural villages like Bahrija.
This was one of my main gripes with Malta when I lived there. Absolutely barbaric behaviour.
Yup, my wife is a big animal lover and nonconfrontational. The shop owner got aggressive when I inquired about the cruel living conditions of their bird on her behalf.
The other option is to let them free only to be blown to bits with a shotgun (by the same people, by the way). Some would say they are protecting the little birds by caging them
I am Maltese and when ever i visit malta which is several times a year . If i see any, i flip the cages open so the birds can escape. My Maltese Grandad did this for many years and thought it was cute when i was little till i grew up and thought nahh this aint on.
