Some tweets he posted 10 years ago are about to be made public so he’s jumped before he’s pushed.
I assume the significant recent change is being elected councillor. That wasn’t the plan and he doesn’t actually want to quit his day job.
There’s a theory which posits that Reform simply ran as many as possible to grab a headline about hundreds of wins and the vote percentage while not giving a damn about how long they stayed in position after the polls closed
I really hope that reform winning some councils will ruin their reputation. While people love to moan about local government the truth is the majority of their spending and focus is legally required stuff that they basically can’t do anything about.
„Seven days after fighting an election on a promise to cut spending and waste, the Reform County Councillor for Newark West has resigned which will result in the triggering of a by-election that will cost taxpayers thousands of pounds,“ he said.

How much will the by-elections cost to replace someone who either didn’t want the job or didn’t bother to read the rules?
It’s a waste of time and money just because a party owned by a chancer attracts people who have no interest in serving the community and improving everyone’s lives but are there to whine about the ‚foreigners‘.
Expecting a lot of this in the coming weeks, Reformers going into office, realising they’re ill-equipped, ill-informed and altogether indifferent to how local councils operate, realising there’s not really an avenue to „get foreigners out“/get rich quick when you’re more in charge of bin collection and bus routes.
That’s two in a week. Wonderful. Pity there’s many more that’ll take his place.
I know everyone is keen to mock and in a lot of circumstances I would be to.
But „Significant recent changes to Desmond’s personal circumstances“ could well mean something like a cancer diagnosis, I would wait a little bit for decencies sake before getting the shots in.
Having been elected his staff sat him down and explained to him what he would be doing. When he learnt he was actually going to have to work he decided it wasn’t for him.
“I thought reform was all about grifting, not actually thinking and working”

Oh no! Governance is actually hard when you have to deal with the nitty gritty and not just spout inane nonsense!
I hope that this is a sign that Reform will crumble across the next weeks/months to the point where even those who voted for them can see their incompetence and not vote for them again
You get this after every local election – a candidate who wasn’t expecting to win suddenly realises he has to actually do the job he never really wanted to do in the first place. Being a councillor is a part time job that doesn’t pay that much.
Politics will be boring unless you are greedy/corrupt or truly Altruistic
Suspect his seat will flip back to the Tories now. One of the few times im actually looking forward to a Conservative gain
