These two countries can say almost anything and I’ll be skeptical.

What worries me is that India has been completely humiliated, there is evidence of multiple aircraft being shot down. Modi is looking very weak, and that could lead him to do something reckless to please Indians.
Rafale being downed supposedly by PL-15s should be a wake-up call that Chinese aircraft are very capable and not to be underestimated. Far more capable than Russian equivalents available for export. It isn’t surprising e.g. Egypt went for J10Cs over SU35s (ideally they would have wanted J16s but they aren’t for sale, yet).
At this stage we can safely say that India has lost between zero and five jets. Perhaps more.
