Dems should win like 300+ seats with this kind of tariffs at this point jesus fucking christ.

    2. Just when you thought that it couldn’t get more dumb, Trump manages to find a new low.

    3. >*Hollywood, meaning the American film industry, derives a significant portion of its revenue from international markets, with estimates indicating that almost70%of its box office revenue now comes from abroad. This means that foreign audiences contribute a larger share of profits than domestic audiences in the film industry. (Goog)*

So, it would appear that this 100% movie tariff would kill Hollywood off far quicker–if indeed it is in trouble

What exactly does “produced” mean in this context? Actual foreign films that are made entirely outside of the United States? Or does this mean that you can’t even make a domestic film that includes material shot outside of the United States? What exactly is it that’s being tariffed, and how? Just… what?

    5. How the fuck do you tariff a movie? Does he think there’s container ships pulling into San Francisco with containers full of VHS tapes or something?

Ah, pretty much the only segment of the US industry that trump had not destroyed yet, Hollywood. Bye Bye, can’t wait to see the world enact reciprocal tariffs because the US imports at least as much as it exports… oh, wait. What an idiot.

      >“The Movie Industry in America is DYING a very fast death,”

      What?! Since when?

      >“Other Countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States. Hollywood, and many other areas within the U.S.A., are being devastated. This is a concerted effort by other Nations and, therefore, a National Security threat.

Movies are a national security threat now??? Wow, I’m glad trump is addressing the problems Americans are truly worried about! 🙄

Yea man, get rid of the circus with empty shelves on the way. Bold strategy cotton

On the plus side, maybe this will get the weebs to finally turn on Trump. Japan is basically the only other place making movies and „importing“ them here. So doubling the price of that is a direct attack on one of his core online fan bases.

Would the likes of Star Wars & MCU be counted as „foreign films“? A good chunk of work is done at Pinewood Studios here in the UK.

I’m so fucking over how insanely fucking stupid he and his followers are

So, Americans are going to have limited options as it relates to movies? So the only thing Americans are going to be able to watch are „Pro-American Films“? I want to be clear, I strongly believe that these measures, almost all of them, are not born from the mind of Trump. At this point, and it should be clear to every American, the Republican party is taken advantage of Trump and his idiocy. They keep him propped up and in exchange they quickly ram through bills and executive orders that would otherwise fall flat.

Everything, all of these executive orders, save the ones related to Tariffs, are the wishes of Republican lawmakers and their financers. Trump does not care about legislation, he does not care about the will of the people, and he most certainly does not care about whether he is executing on his Presidential responsibilities; he gets to appear powerful and that’s all that matters to him.

The GOP and DNC are cooked. Even if they were to impeach, they are cooked. Their miscalculation has led the USA to the brink of civil war and the world to the brink of another World War. None of what I wrote should be viewed as making an excuse for Trump as he is most certainly a willing participant in this whole situation. Just trying to clear my thoughts.

    13. We really need to be having the real discussion about how he is batshit deranged and yet not a single paper of record seems to be competent enough to have that actual discussion. We’re just speed running into the dissolution of an empire by the hands of a buffoon and not a single reporter seems like they’re willing to even talk about impeachment or removal.

      Incredibly bleak.

    14. There is never going to be a bottom to this well how of dumb and absurd he is. What does this even really mean? Hollywood has a lot of problems and none of it has to do with people making movies outside the country. I hate how obvious he is with his propaganda, only doing stuff because it riles up his ignorant base who never second guess anything he does.

I mean, details like movies being information – not goods – aside, if this gets put in like a new tax on movie licensing from firms outside the USA, maybe it’s time Canada end it’s tax havens for film companies based in the USA to film here. Yes, we know Vancouver and Toronto sky lines are used for popular productions.

    16. If he does this and countries retaliate by doing the same with American films, the American film industry will suffer the most. Why is he doing these things?

    17. Come on. He is very clearly our ‘mad king’. I just check my feed after a few hours and he is going to put a tariff on movies, reopen Alcatraz and doesn’t know if he has to uphold due process? That’s just since I had my morning coffee.

    18. This is so stupid. Entertainment is one of the biggest products the US exports. Once other countries reciprocate it will decimate the film industry even more. I think he did this on purpose.

    19. He’s such a dumb fuck, sometimes it’s quite hard not to yell.

Even worse though are the concentric rings of enablers, not one of whom has the balls to tell him, ‘That makes no sense.’

Just wait until he tries to put tariffs on foreign water coming into the country. You guessed it, hurricanes, coming in from the Southern Atlantic. He’s going to tear off them bigly.

    21. Paper_Clip100 on

Movies are protected by the Berman Amendment from executive branch actions like tariffs.

      But oh well.

If trying to boost economy: Tax incentives to film in US.

If trying to destroy economy: This.

    23. Mal-De-Terre on

I think we make a hell of a lot more money from US films in foreign markets than we lose from foreign films here…

He has been saying a lot of odd stuff. Something really bad must be about to go down.
