Yeah, you’d almost think that was never the goal to begin with.
The U.S. dollar is also worth 7% less today than it was in January. So that $25 bn isn’t even as valuable.
Is that counting all the people they hired back because they realized they shouldn’t have been fired?
Does that include the $500 Billion in lost revenue just from the IRS cuts alone?

With the cuts to research, aid and other academic programs, I wouldn’t be shocked to see that this entire fiasco has cost us trillions of dollars.
The cost so far, there are multiple court cases that need defending that will increase costs, and potentially decrease savings.
I’d rather have the FDA, SEC, FBI, CIA, USAID, and all those little interdepartmental agencies whose jobs were hard to define but mainly made things run smoother.
And that total will fall even further after all the lawsuits about illegal firings and department defunding wind their way through the courts.
Where are the receipts that prove DOGE saved anything at all? Why the hell do these journalists just take these lying fascists at their word?
And add the demolition of regulatory bodies and our tax funded scientific research. They fulfilled their promise, and MAGA, stupid as they are, think they have inside knowledge of what and why this happened.
Oh, just wait until the wolves start eating their fill. Securities fraud that won’t be investigated; bosses embezzling the 401(k); water tables polluted; new products that cannot get approved; kids missing multiple school-days due to completely preventable diseases; etc. etc. And that’s to say nothing about Mr. Tariffs and the Great Leap Backwards.
This ass-hat and his crew of teenage boys will make 2008 look cheap in comparison.
When you add in legal fees fighting the illegality, loss of revenue to the lack of manpower in the IRS, people refusing to pay taxes due to the turmoil, the decline in the US dollar, and the host of revenues lost to the tariffs; the $25B in savings turns into a deficit.
And the loss to the U.S. world power and influence is inestimable and goes far, far, far beyond any cuts that were made/

The cost in human suffering and the nullification of advancement is indescribable.
There is no dollar amount that could possibly make up for this wanton fascist destruction of projects and programs that benefit people all over the globe.
The fact that this was done as deliberate harm by narcissistic sociopaths to feed an identity cult whose only goal is to leverage hateful and violent power fantasies to eke out tiny amounts of dopamine from their smooth and tiny brains makes ANY imagined “benefit” moot.
These are absolute psychos, so consumed by their own fragility that being the apex predators of capitalism is not enough, they need to perform this cruelty every second of every day to convince themselves that their compensatory narrative is real.
The whole thing is a narcissism cult. Wait, how do you spend $135B in 100 days when you weren’t appropriated any of that money by Congress and your department didn’t exist?

And with reduction in services and things that actually benefit the economy, maybe not today but in the future, this is a money losing venture
To be fair, shouldn’t we be evaluating this over a longer time horizon? If you eliminate a bureaucrat position, you are not just eliminating his salary for this year or even his lifetime earnings. You are permanently eliminating this expenditure forever. Unless the next administration hires someone for that position.
Except the loss of departmental knowledge is far far higher than the financial report will ever tell you.

There aren’t any real net savings—just short-term accounting tricks. Over time, the reduced investment in public services will cost Americans far more.
